IH-888D - 17oz Duck Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Brown
-
Ok…thanks everyone. I appreciate it as always. The kind chaps at IHUK are holding my order and hemming until I get some measurements on my other 888's....which I am going to do right now!!
Geez, between these 888Ds, 888 XHS, and 888ODs...im gonna be Slow Fade Charlie...haha
Three in the rotation isn't too ridiculous, right???
-
Ha, you're good. Your rotation can be as big or as small as you'd like! I tend to have a big rotation but wanted to get some more fades on my XHS. I started doing like 4-5 mile hikes in them. Sure enough, fades came pretty quickly!
Now that it's warming up, hiking in 25oz is less comfortable so I'm going to switch to the 16oz IH x Pronto slubby. It sounds nerdy but part of the enjoyment that I get from the hike is knowing I'm putting some evolution into the jeans. I like to always be evolving something
-
I haven’t really noticed duck to stretch at all. It it does, it’s negligible. Tight duck is unforgiving.

I can vouch for that ::)

Haha…well, we both need pocket protectors then. Every since I got into the denim game I hike in my jeans too. Actually, a big part of why I wanted these ducks is for my backcountry fishing. I backpack a lot (not backpacking in the ducks) but once to the water and in the high elevation Rocky Mountains, solid pants and shirts go a long way....extra bonus, high elevation mountains make for great fades!!!
Shit, we really are nerds!!
@steelworker and @sabergirl thanks for the deets on the lack of stretch. Guess I should keep it right at my normal waist (post stretch) size. I assume not a lot of loss in length as well then? Hem to what I want with little to no expected shrinkage?
-
that should work. even getting half an inch of stretch in the waist can be dicey
-
I think I did see a little inseam shrinkage on my 801. Not sure if it’s the fabric or from the combs setting in. I’d allow like 1/4-1/2 inch.

Thanks @sabergirl im going to heed this advice. I’ll probably hold off on the hem until I’m sure the waist is right, per IH suggestion. No need to buck the experts here!!
-
I promised myself to hold off on buying anymore denim till the UHR measurements were out but duck is more canvas than denim… no promise broken. right?
I’m going back and forth on waist measurements… what’s throwing me off is there appears to be less shrinkage albeit less stretch than what you would expect in denim. It seems the majority favors sizing up but wouldn’t the no shrinkage more or less cancel out for the lack of stretch? Leaving you with the same waist measurement as you would for denim?
-

Canvas isn't denim, so you kept your promise!
I would measure your jeans when they are at their most comfy. For example, my 21oz 888s are a tag 34. They were actually 33.6" when new, and that again after they tighten up from a wash. I can put them on if I suck my gut in a bit, but they're not exactly comfortable at that measurement.
But when I wear them they stretch out to a comfortable 35". That inch and a half makes all the difference. So I took the 35 tag in the Duck fabric because I want them to be wearable/comfortable without relying on stretch.
-
@Bren sizing duck pants is the easiest thing in the world. You're just too scarred from the abuse of having to size denim to appreciate it
Seriously though, like EdH said, if you like your jeans to be X" in the waist, and Y" in the thigh when they're all stretched out, buy a pair of duck pants that are X" in the waist and Y" in the thigh. You won't get much stretch (if any). Just assume that you won't get any shrink or any stretch and you'll be fine. Add maybe 0.25" to the inseam for stacking, though I doubt you'll even lose that.
The only caveat to the advice above is that some people like their denim to be more fitted and their duck to be more loose. That's a personal preference, and you have to make up your mind on that.

@EdH & @Paul9221 such prompt responses to ease my paranoia and ride this new order high (spot on Paul on the denim scars w any uncharted fabric as a result) Order placed and would expect to have by end of next week/beginning of the following after hem. Let y’all know how I made out when they arrive.
-
Perfecto. Glad I sized up 1 from my denim size. These are bang on. Need to visit the tailor for some hemming, then we are off to the races.
@Mizmazzle @Bren dont mention it. Hope you like your fit.
-
We’ll done @EdH
And even better job picking your tattoo artist… Flawless line work. -
@Bren Ha! Thanks. Check out the tattoo thread in General Chat if you’re into talking tats. I recently had most of the sleeve done in a day. He does do very good line work. He’s @dirt_nap_ on Instagram (I’m not on it) if you wanted to check out the artist.

Awesome fit, @EdH
I think I need these in my life…
-
Got my usual tag but with +0.5” I’m the waist, fits great.
The duck has a totally different drape / flow / feel to it, I really like it. Going to make a great addition to the rotation, and gives some nice contrast to all my denim shirts/jackets.
I would recommend this to those interested. This in olive is going on my wish list.
-
Yo, to all you dude that missed out on the 35”. I returned mine and there will be one in stock in the coming days
-
Damn! Wasn’t anticipating loving this duck fabric so much!! Maybe I’m already warped in the brain from the 21oz and now the XHS…but this duck feels so light and easy to wear. Lined pockets feel nice to slide the hands into.
These are going to be my fishing pants this summer! Can't resist sharing this beauty from last week!
