Owning just one pair of jeans??
-
Hi there, I only have one pair of jeans, not including my pair for painting/oily work. They are from Blackhorse Lane Ateliers and I've been wearing them most days for 4 months.
What would you suggest for a newbie who appears to be getting the bug? Do I stay minimalist or get more jeans for no reason?

@IHOI when I first started out at IH I only had in mind one indigo and one black pair. But as you become acquainted with the different types of denim, you'll find yourself justifying the need for 17oz natural indigo for weekends, a 21oz black pair to keep nice, a 14oz black pair to wear daily, a 21oz indigo pair because that's the signature denim. Then it spirals from there

Ah yes a black pair, that would be good! Haha oh dear.

Well my current Blackhorse Lane pair are high rise wide straight leg (not super wide just roomy) in a nice smooth Turkish 15.5oz denim, so I guess something a bit more tapered and slubby would be awesome. But maybe I'm sacrificing a simpler life by getting more options ::) ::)
@IHOI on a more constructive note, work out what cut you think you'll be a fan of, then go from there. The regular 14oz and 21oz indigo denims are always great starting point. Ask as many questions as you like too!

@IHOI I started with just a pair of 777s-21, after wearing for a while I introduced a pair of 777N and have just brought into the rotation a pair of 777S-19L, I wanted to have 3 pairs all at different stages of fade, as AJ said, its good to have different jeans for different occassions, depending on where/what I am doing I can wear whatever jeans are best for that. (Plus I have a pair of white 777 for the summer and a black pair for keeping nice like AJ)

Unlike many here I wear a single pair of jeans until they fall apart and don't rotate.
I also keep another pair for when my primary pair is out for repair and have one in the in the pipeline for when I decide to retire my primary pair.
I can get between 3 and 5 years out of a single pair of jeans so I don't have a large collection.
Buying jeans for no reason doesn't make any sense. If you're interested in inventing and rationalizing reasons, you've come to the right place.

I currently have two pairs of Grease Point Workwear Easy Pants in rotation. One is denim, the other is a herringbone / stripe fabric. I think that one to wear and one to wash would be the minimum, and I think that I'd be good with that.
I do have a few pairs in for repair, and a couple that don't currently fit. I've been slowly losing the Pandemic Pounds over the last year, so I'm hoping to get back into them in the future. If not, I'll sell them on or give them away.

Ha yes this is a good place to make excuses as to why I need more jeans! It makes sense to have two for whatever reason - getting caught in the rain and needing a dry pair, washing etc. And maybe a black pair!

Yes, maybe a smarter pair of jeans for when these ones are very faded would be good. Hmm..

Yes I guess it's good to have another pair for when these are in for repair or something. I was very tempted by Oni Secret Denim as I'm a very unusual shape (I'm a 26 inch waist in most jeans but 5"10 which doesn't really exist outside of vintage stores). Their 28 fitted me nicely. If they were black there may even be a reason to get them, but the blue was lovely.

I try to stay minimalist when it comes to jeans, so I've 2 pairs: 21oz 888 for most of the year, and 16oz 888 Slubby for when it gets hotter. In non-denim, I've also got the 888 Duck canvas jeans, which pass for occasions where denim might come off as a little too casual.
But it's hard to stay that way on these forums… I'm thinking a pair of 25oz XHS might be next if I'm not careful!

I started out with some Tellason 14.75 oz jeans. (Besides all the other usual suspects we all wore pre “denim head”)
My curiosity got the better of me so I got some 888 21oz OD. Those were so next level I couldn’t believe it. Since they were black/blue I thought getting a pair of true indigos in the 888 XHS would be cool to balance things out. Boom!! The XHS is seriously the bees knees. Love the heft and the softness once broken in.
That’s it for me now, as far as jeans go. Have some cords and duck I adore too. But my XHS get about 90% wear time. It’s the shirts where things can go haywire for me!!!
