RIP Filthy Mike
-
Oh fuck.
Not being dramatic here, I’m at a weekend funeral for my best childhood friend right now and unable to sleep in this strange place so I hopped on the forum. I’ve had many conversations with Mike, but my favorite was when I talked about a broken button on my 16 and he offered to send me a set of vintage buttons to replace the current. He also sent a set of old iron heart stickers, one of which graces my phone case.
Fuck man, he will be missed.
Also, his cuffs were to jeans, what Vince Carter was to dunks.

Many of us obviously won’t be able to make Mike’s memorial on account of being on a different continent, but if anyone wants to don a bin and drink a few beers in his honour tomorrow I’ll gladly set up a Zoom link

Thinking of you, dear friend,
brother in bib,
mad denim professor,
wonderful struggled fellow,
Mike @FilthyBon voyage on you next trip.
The Laughing Heart
Your life is your life
Don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission.
Be on the watch.
There are ways out.
There is a light somewhere.
It may not be much light but
It beats the darkness.
Be on the watch.
The gods will offer you chances.
Know them.
Take them.
You can’t beat death but
You can beat death in life, sometimes.
And the more often you learn to do it,
The more light there will be.
Your life is your life.
Know it while you have it.
You are marvelous
The gods wait to delight
In you.Charles Bukowski

I think this thread is a beautiful tribute to one hell of a guy and I hope his sister and Mom get to read it.
Like most you guys, my heart is in my feet right now.
I never got to meet Mike but talked to him by DM & IG a bit. If I had a question about a piece of clothing he had, he would shoot a youtube for me about it and usually just gushed over how amazing of a piece it was. He was a super passionate guy and always willing to help, always a nice guy. A lot of times I used to think he missed his calling in that he should’ve owned a denim shop. I think he could have made a living selling bibs and 822s alone.Mike loved these jeans and the community that came along with them and we all sure as hell loved him back. He is irreplaceable. Many thoughts and prayers for him, his family, and Pickles.

Rest in Peace Mike. I have never met someone else who was so kind and willing, unasked and unprompted, to help out other people and never want anything in return. I have so much scrap denim fabric because of Mike, and my first time meeting him he got me and Adam the Selfedge jeans hangers because of my bunny taking some nibbles at my waist band. So many of my repairs and other small sewing projects were only possible because of Mike.
Rest in peace friend

I have sent Alissa, his sister, a link to this thread and suggested she read it to understand how truly loved Mike is/was….

I never met Mike and didn’t know him personally but we chatted on IG and this forum. He was so helpful and such a kind soul. This is heartbreaking. Rest In Peace Mike.
