IH-555S-16 - 16oz Vintage Selvedge Super Slim Cut
-
I have to wonder why it didn't find much traction.
Especially since it’s really the only IH denim that’s comfortable above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. I wish I had bought a backup pair of 666’s.
-
Figure I'd contribute to the forum rather than just asking for advice. Here's my pair which I've worn pretty much solid Mon-Fri since Mar/Apr of this year. 3-4 washes, no soaks.
Terrible pic, sorry. Will try and get a better one soon.

Nice! Looks like the 16oz is going to fade similarly to the 18oz. Also looks like it’s going to develop more character with wear like the 18oz does.

Just received the 555S-16 few days ago, superb quality and hemming, very fast shipment and pleasant experience with Iron Heart UK.
Quite snug and hopefully it will stretch more especially on the thigh area.
Was wondering how will the stretch level of the 16oz ? As stretchable as the signature 21oz ?

Have any of you soaked the 555s-16 in hot water and dried on high heat? I'm curious as to max shrinkage for sizing purposes. I found a once-worn pair in a size larger than I'd normally wear.

These are fully sanforised so there will be very little shrinkage available, if any. Sanforisation is a pretty brutal process. The hand and colour of the denim may also be affected negatively with that kind of treatment. Any shrinkage you get would stretch right back out again with wear.
-
I was hoping otherwise. I've experienced mixed results with other brands of sanforized selvedge jeans.
-
It’s worth noting that even sanforised denim can be expected to shrink 3-5%, but that will come back after the first wear.
I can’t speak to the qualities of the 16oz specifically as I don’t own a pair. I do know the vintage 18oz which has a similar construction, was very resistant to shrinkage through those methods. If you compare the IHSH-177 and it’s overdyed brother the IHSH-178, you’ll see only marginal differences in measurements. Over dying dishes out a far more brutal shrinking treatment than a washing machine/dryer could ever be made to.
Most IH denim I’ve had responds this way, especially the 21oz. My opinion is you’d be taking a big risk buying a size too big and trying to shrink them.
Perhaps @xtcclassic could chip in, I believe he has experience with the 16oz…

I’ve never tried shrinking mine, I hand wash my jeans in warm water and let them hang dry. I don’t recall whether mine shrink at all with their first wash though I imagine they did a bit. Certainly nothing significant though, I would have remembered that.

Thanks neph and xtc.

I doubt whether you will get any noticeable shrinkage whatever you do.
Putting them on a hot radiator just dries them quicker, it is the lubrication and agitation of the fibres that causes shrinkage, not heat. Things tend to shrink more in hotter washes, but that is not because the water is hotter but because hot cycles tend to be more brutal….
-
I have washed these in the machine on the warm setting and air dried. There was maybe .25 inches of shrink in length. I washed them in the same batch as my 18 oz vintage jeans and they shrank an inch.
-
I didn't get much shrinkage/if any following a relatively hot soak.
One thing I did notice is that they didn't soften up as quickly as my 18oz 555-02. However, this may be something to do with my weight going up and down over the past two years, effecting the break in process.
-
@CKL1213 they look very nice indeed. May be too trim for some peoples tastes but I like a tighter fit as long as we’re not talking sausage leg skinny. And these are not that. When they loosen up and drape properly I believe they will look excellent. How do they feel? Not too restrictive?
-
To honest it was a bit tight on the thigh, can’t fully raise my leg but I’m ok with it as I’m not gonna do some aerobics move, walking is no problem at all, when walking up stairs will feel resistance.
As I haven’t really wear it, just wearing for like 30 minutes at home walking around to loosen the denim and hopefully will stretch out some.
The hem of 7” is just perfect for my desired look, if I was to up one size the hem will become 7.5”.
All the while I’m wearing straight cut (Levi’s) which I find the knee 10” and hem 8” is too big for my liking.
First time experiencing super slim fit, really like the look, guess I’m having mid life crisis [emoji38]
