IH-888-XHSib - 25oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - Ind/blk

These are sized exactly the same out of the box as the 888UHRs I own… which fit beautifully (aside from the weird extra fabric at the hip). Do these shrink much? Do I need more room considering the even thicker fabric? Can I justify the best part of $500 on a pair of jeans? ???
Hip flare is part of the 888 experience I think. I’ve learnt to love it.
Lots of folks have documented shrinkage earlier in the thread, myself included. Have a look for the details. It seems a fairly uniform .5” can be expected in the waist, possibly a little more in length. The bottom line is that they’ll stretch to a a little over pre-soak measurements in the waist and thigh.
You don’t need more room because it is heavier. The difference that makes is immaterial (pun intended).
The last bit is up to you but I’m inclined to agree with @tvenuto

@neph93 nice fit man

@neph93 good fit. I think sizing down was a good choice for you.
Re: hip flare, it's the one thing I have a hard time with in this cut. To me, the 888 is completely different to the 634 - it's far more than a 634 with a higher rise and more tapered lower leg (as originally described, I believe). The hips are much wider. What works so well for me in the 634 is the transition from hips to thigh is very smooth and straight. The 888 have some flair. Almost anti-fit, in a way. That may make for a more comfortable {read: roomy} fit and better range of motion.
@Zein1505 I wouldn't say this cut is for bigger guys with big thighs only. If you're a slim guy and usually take a smaller size, 28-30, these are proportionally smaller in that range. I wouldn't call these a lifter's cut with large thigh measurements by any means. There are other jeans out there, including the 1955, that have larger thighs. I would call these "average" thigh measurements. This cut is also very good for sizing down 1, due to the higher rise. i.e. if you like a size 30 in the 555, you could prolly go with a 29 in the 888.

I'm very pleased to report that my jeans feel super-soft and comfy already. They seem to be fading very fast too. I'll say it again: they are an absolute masterpiece, a Godsend. I am very grateful for them. I feel so lucky to have them.
-
God help me if they make these in a 666 or 777 cut. I’m trying to convince myself that the 14oz version in the 777 cut will scratch this itch, luckily so far my temptation is severely tempered by the lack of cuts that suit me in this denim.
@Filthy if you could kindly stfu about how great this denim is if and when the dreaded 666/777 cut is released, that would be fantastic.

I agree with Filthy, these are very comfy with just a weeks worth of wearing and fades will be coming quick and vivid. This is my first 888 cut and they fit me perfectly like SE 633 do. The only cuts that fit my thick thighs and like of having a smallish leg opening.
Once I have a solid year of wears in I can see if they can overthrow my favorite IH denim, the vintage 18oz. Be tough competition.

I can't believe how fast the Combs are fading….
-
I was thinking the same about mine today. But I am supposed to be shutting the fuck up about this pair of jeans so I didn't post anything about it. About 20 wears in and have like 3 months of evo.
-
Uh yea. I have some seat and hem evo now but I’ve mostly been sitting in front of a computer for the past 2 weeks.
-
@neph93 hey Reuben, how did you hem these compared to your 888s-OD?
I went an inch longer to 32.5” for safety’s sake. They measured up as 32.6” before the soak so IHUK nailed that one. Got around 0.7” shrinkage to 31.9”. That is a little longer than my 888-UHR and 888S-OD but not an issue as yet, as I quite like a little cuff on my 888’s with engineer boots (never thought I’d be “that guy” [emoji1]).
Given that this is XHS I’ll wait and see what happens with combs, stacks and the general break in before I decide if I need to do anything. There’s a pretty hefty bit of knee break going on right now but that may be as much a result of the stiffness of the denim as the slightly longer than normal inseam. I expect it to calm down when they’re broken in.
Here they are on day four. Excuse the excessive posing [emoji849]
