2020 - Giles and Paula go to Japan

Great pics, Paula is looking beautiful as always, and I love how Haraki-san is layering his primaloft. I would have never thought it could look so badass.

Last night in Kyoto. Hit a craft beer and whisky bar. It was on the first floor (that is one above the ground floor for you infidels who call the ground floor 1F …) and barely visible from the street as so many bars and restaurants are in Japan.
I did not try this, but I guess it was some sort of London style beer…
Asked the barman where we should get noodles and he sent us to:

What sold me was this sentence….."To spot Nagahama Ramen, all you have to do is spot the most rustic (read: shabbiest) establishment on Kiyamachi Street."
I'll def be going back…...And when I do, I will try and get a photo of the broth stockpots, you could literally take a bath in them, they are so large...

I was admiring his IHV-36, he wears it well.

Unfortunately, Nagahama Ramen shop does not quite smell as good as it tastes, to be frank it smells strongly of soured pork bone soup, but do not let this discourage you. Their Ramen is quite literally, to die for.
This was my favorite line.

Explored some of Kyoto's ancient places today. I have to say, I would not like to be here when the weather is better than it is now and or/when Chinese flights are operational again. I thought it was busy, but it is apparently super, super quiet.
I also would prefer it if there were not signs everywhere telling you not what to do….

We are a month or so too early for the cherry blossoms, and boy will this place be amazing when the cherries are in blossom.
We did find one who was a little premature….
And there are the most amazing structures built to support the laden boughs…
Bamboos were spectacular…
Last night we chatted with a guy who asked us if we like moss. He went on to tells us that the Kyotoans loved it. He was right it is everywhere…

Nice pictures! Looks like you are having lots of fun! Enjoy!

good to see kenta looking good. send my regards if it's not too late! kyoto's looking lovely from your photos. all my trips, i've only ever done day trips to kyoto from osaka. seems like i got to make it a point with staying there and slowly exploring it without any rush..
@Giles the international driving permit is not so much an issue with rental companies. it's basically for them to cover their asses in any unfortunate scenarios if an accident happens and the insurance company doesn't pay out. also, it actually acts more as a translation document that anything else. especially if you were to be pulled over by the cops or whatsoever. other than that, there's not much to it.

Today, we went to Nijo-jo Castle. The castle that both heralded the start of the Edo period and also saw the end. Because of Coronavirus, the interior was closed to the public, but the grounds were stunning, so we did not mind unduly. Again, because of Coronavirus, the place was practically deserted, there were times when it felt like we were the only people there.
Firstly, more do-nots…
Damn, I really wanted to go down that hole….
My personal favorite…
And this one just does not have the heart, to give it an outright "No"….
And just how small do you need to be for this to be in any way relevant?
