My NF bootmaker. Nathan is a close friend and I got to visit him halfway through making these and see his set up

@Robert-Z @selvedgeosaurus Gents, how did you size your Ludlows? I've got a pair on order, went just half a size under brannock. I wanted to err on the side of too large, and it's a bit contentious converting from UK sizing. Suddenly, spending this much on boots without trying on feels nuts.

First pair of Nicks just arrived yesterday. They are the Robert quick ship in brown Chromexcel. Been excitedly waiting on these for a couple months. So solid! Feet are getting a workout today!
-
Thanks man! Looking forward to seeing how they age!

@Oroccoco I sized down one full size from brannock, same as my Viberg 2040. I could have went half size and used a thin orthotic for extra comfort though.
-
Thanks @Robert-Z I generally need some sort of inner sole for arch support, mine are on the way, so fingers crossed Yours look lovely, some interesting grain with this horsebutt leather. Chickened out on engineers, these should be very wearable provided they fit... Appreciate the response.

@Oroccoco I actually didn’t have the option of a half size down when I purchased them, but am very pleased with one size down. I wear custom orthotics and not every boot works for me, but the toe box is roomy and they feel great. A little stiff at first, becoming more and more comfortable every day. Hope you love them as much as I do

Thanks @selvedgeosaurus Size anxiety all part of the fun of buying stuff online. These will be my first real step up from Iron Rangers, can't wait to see them!

These boots are White’s Hathorn Fire boots. I used them a few years ago when I was flying and doing aerial firefighting. They were very inexpensive, relative to prices these days. I got them on discount from Sportman’s Warehouse for $225. They are unlined and have no toe structure.
I’m off to the cobbler right now to have them re-soled and cut down. In the last picture you will see the dashed line to indicate where I’d like them cut. I am going to ask for a single leather midsole, with an uninterrupted leather stack on the heel. I’m going to ask for a moderately shaped logger heel. Undecided about the edge. I’m thinking waxed brown or natural. Sole will be a Vibram chevron half sole, and the heel covered with a rubber heel.
I’m going for a Donkey Puncher vibe. I will update the thread when I get them back.
I’ve never used this cobbler before, so this is an exciting adventure. I’m really hoping it works out, because he is super affordable and very close to home. I get an “old world” vibe from him and his shop, so I’ve got that going for me.

Fun project but also those look great as is.

Bummer news. Cobbler didn’t want to do the project. He wasn’t interested in re-welting the boot, which pretty much was a dead end. He was super sweet. I also think his business model is more turn and burn and didn’t want to commit so much time the project. Oh well. I’m gonna ship them off. Any rec’s for US cobblers whom y’all might think would take this on?

Thought I’d share an amazing score I found this summer on Poshmark. All in I paid $250 Canadian for a brand new pair of JK Boots. Normally these would have been north of $900 to get them to Canada. The best part. They are my size. Rough out lower 10 inch smooth upper.
