is there any strategy to wear them first to get some initial stretch before doing the soak? They feel snug as a bug already so nervous the soak will really make the breaking in period even less enjoyable...?
-
I don’t wanna be a game breaker but i can remember some peeps with fade shifting cause they didn’t soak. Offcourse everyone need to do it on there own way but i would definitely advise to soak before wear also it will ease the denim.
-
@goosehd thank you. So once I soak and they stretch back to what they are now will they stretch even further beyond their original size? I guess I am just hoping I will get .5 or slightly more relaxed in the waist. I am old and sometimes in the winter months (I am Canadian) I can drink a few more adult beverages and put on some insulation
-
You will get stretch anywhere your jeans are under tension (specifically the waist) and .5 inch is definitely doable.
@Heavy_blue is correct about fade shifting and I wouldn’t wear them for an extended timeframe before a soak and wash.
Typically I will wear mine for a week + or - a few days until the jeans start to give. Then I will do a soak and wash to shrink, and then wear until you feel they need washed again.
-
@aaronblitz it’s not an exact science but typically the waist will shrink maybe 0.5” and you will get an inch stretch. So they’ll be a little bigger than they are now after soak and a few days wear.
-
ok this is great advice. But based on the pictures provided you think these are a good starting fit before soak/wash? If I want to minimize shrinkage I can soak in cold water/Luke warm?
-
Because fit is subjective, a lot of it comes down to you and if you’re comfortable. My favourite cuts are the 666 and 634’s because of where they sit on my waist. The 888’s sit higher and I often have a harder time feeling comfortable in them.
My advice is if you’re comfortable with where they sit, then yes, you are at a great starting point.
In my journey I used to wear my jeans a little too loose and they are now regulated to my (gained a little too much during the winter) jeans.
I now start where you are now and am much happier with the end results.
-
My go to now is if I can barely get the top button done, but can still bend, squat, and sit somewhat comfortably then I’m good to go.
The first week can be a little rough though…
This does not apply to all fabrics though (specifically whipcord). It does not stretch.
-
@goosehd ok this is perfect because I can do all of this now. And agree I have purchased several pairs that I bought to fit just right from day one that end up getting stretched out over time and retired to my 'winter collection'
Great advice and making me feel like all my time measuring and comparing the sizing charts may have paid off.
Thank you

hahaha totally it was a good call the higher they go up the better they feel actually. They are not fighting with my boney hips
This is what I was seeing. Glad that helped. I actually size down one for 888s.

@Mizmazzle looks cool dude!

This would be the highest I could pull them up before things get more 'tight' in other areas
I had it in size 32, they sat the same as you. I couldn't wear them because of the pressure and I bought them in size 33 and became happy
