I’ll take an Auston Martin DB5, with all the gadgets lol
-
This is the Bell Aurens Longnose, a heavily modified Land-Rover. It was originally meant to be fitted with a Merlin engine from a Spitfire, hence the elongated snout, but the TÜV stopped that from happening.
It was up for sale recently, and Monochrome have a write-up.

@natehate wow that is a work of art!
-
@natehate what an interesting idea. i really dig the creativity that comes with engine swaps and of course the unlocking of new capabilities otherwise not present with OEM engines.
-
@Inorganic this has sent me down a rabbit hole watching numerous videos on these
-
@natehate would you mind DM'ing me any other good videos you happen to find? I am so so so intrigued by this idea.
-
I'll agree in LS swapping a rx7 but not a Porsche..
-
@louisbosco if i handed you the keys to an 04 911 with a blown motor and your options are 20+g's for a Porsche motor or 6g's for an ls?
-
@natehate ahh well if you put it that way. Could I choose a Barra I6?
-
@louisbosco said in Our Cars (dream or actual):
Barra I6
the ls weighs the same as the Porsche motor keeping the balance and handling the same. plus creates way more usable torque.
i doubt anyone is making conversions for the barra l6
but you do you -
I find the motor swaps really interesting. Mike Finnegan with the 2JZ engine in the Death Metal Charger, Tony Angelo with the LS in a Porsche. He recently dismanteled a Tesla, so that's going to be an interesting project, too.
But living in Germany, the TÜV will quickly end all these dreams... -
@louisbosco I've been thinking about this somewhat none stop since @natehate put that first video out there. And I keep on coming back to the question of what is it that makes the car the car? - In the case of the LS swapped Porsche is it still a Porsche? I never quite realized the potential philosophical depths of an engine swap lol! Before selling I considering an engine swap on my VW vanagon - to put in a Subaru for speed, reliability etc. etc. if I did so it would have still have been a vanagon...anyway, it's something to ponder - is an LS Porsche still a Porsche? I think so, but I understand that others may not.
-
@Inorganic it's just modern day hot rodding
you're taking a lite weight package and putting in more power
add that its not changing the weight or the handling
deadly car -
@natehate yeah fair. maybe not in the US. the Barra swaps are pretty common down here in Aus, along with notable JDM engines like your usual 2J or RB swaps..
@Inorganic I think the answer will depend if you are asking the purist or a different crowd. a purist will never admit that it will remain a Porsche. but others might be keen on such interesting projects and derive an answer based on how the final product behaves..
