White's Boots

Waxed flesh is a changin’ -
First pair of White’s finally in the house. Ordered from Baker’s last November. Coming from Red Wings (which I still love) these things are like tanks. I can’t get over the build quality and heavy duty feel. The size is perfect (9.5D) and the same as my Iron Ranger size. I’m hoping the arch is not a problem and breaks in like everyone says. Will get better pics when I can.
What’s everyone’s opinion about waxed vs leather laces? Kiltie or no?
-
I love my custom White's. Here's my rule of thumb regarding the kiltie/lace question:
Kiltie and/or leather laces for the "worker" look
No kiltie and/or waxed laces for a "dapper" look. Also, when breaking in the boots, leather laces are most likely going to pressure your instep and it'll take longer to take off your boots. Waxed laces are going to secure your instep more without applying as much pressure and will allow you to take off your boots a lot easier.

@cityofdelusion thanks I hadn’t thought about the pressure being different with different laces.

I think I’ve settled on the leather laces with kilties to start. The addition of the kiltie actually makes them fit a wee bit better because I don’t have a lot of foot volume and they feel a bit more snug with them on. I’ve got one question for you guys though…please tell me the arch breaks down. I put in a couple hours yesterday and today and it’s like a roll of quarters in my shoe. Not painful but definitely “there”.

Check out the section "Break-in" in this article. It should answer your question pretty accurately.

@cityofdelusion great article, thanks for sharing.
I’m still worried.

The arch on the 55 last is definitely different from most boots. I found it to be comfortable, but only after getting used to it. That takes time. I don't think the arch breaks down, I think you and your foot get used to it if it's suitable, and no shoe can suit everyone. They might just not work for you, but it's also possible that with time you'll come to think they are comfortable in their own weird way. How much do you like the way they look? I find that helps me make the decision.
