Watches - another OCD problem

@Mizmazzle Thank you so much man, it is a very nice watch and very sentimental. And thank you for the well wishes

Congratulations Bailey. Once you are married, you may find that being correct twice a day, like a broken watch, is a good result!

JDM Seiko Shikamaru limited edition for any Naruto fans in here.
I have to admit I ordered one after seeing this picture.
It still eludes me, why the hour hands are not luminous.

Nice one @Bailey great watch. Congratulations on the wedding.

@Brandrea Cheers man really appreciate it. I totally agree, definitely an after thought leaving it this late. I'm told by @Ross this was potentially Seiko's first waterproof watch which if true is pretty cool!
Bailey, I can attempt to find that out for you if you like. I have a friend who’s sort of a Seiko expert and he’s intrigued by your watch.
Can you post a shot of the caseback?

@Cole I love this thing, the Seikos are so comfortable on the wrist. The black hands are luminous, but you’re right, it really ain’t worth a shit lol. I love the subtle hints to the character. The shadow possession jutsu on the indices which are shaped like shogi game pieces - that gets me.
-
@IrishHeart haha brilliant, you're not wrong
-
@deanclean Cheers man, greatly appreciated

@Bailey According to my friend, this is a Seiko Ref# 6602-8010 and it would have been made in April of 1967. So while not an early waterproof release it is a direct descendant.
I hope that helps.
It’s worth a proper restoration not withstanding its sentimental value. A keeper.
Once again, congratulations on the upcoming weddding.

In case you haven’t seen it, this article might provide some background info from the same era, if not exactly the same model of watch: https://www.beyondthedial.com/post/restoration-workbench-seiko-liner-14090-how-resistant-to-water-were-seikos-earliest-waterproof-watches/#:~:text=Many collectors will agree that, factory was not far behind.
Congrats on the upcoming wedding too.

There's an annual auction event for charity called "Only Watch", for which watch makers produce unique pieces. Most of the watches for the 2023 event can now be viewed on the site. Those are clearly beyond my means but it's fun to see what makers can do. Some just do minor variations on existing models (looking at you, Laurent Ferrier), others come up with insane contraptions (see Jacobs & Co.).

What are your favorite? I'd completely go for the L. U. Chopard. (Image link doesn't seem to work for some reason...)

@Nocturama very interesting read, much appreciated mate! and thank you for the well wishes man

Hey watch lovers! Question: anyone have experience with nice quality alligator straps? I'm wondering how they break in over time. How soft and comfy do they get, etc?
Jack-foster.com has a nice looking one in navy blue I am sort of interested in. I have a couple other straps from him that I really love. Very high quality work he does!!
