I think they have bigger issues to worry about. Like working out whether this is sport or entertainment.....
Problems with manhole covers at the Las Vegas Grand Prix track are "just unacceptable", Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur says.
First practice was cancelled after just nine minutes when Carlos Sainz hit a manhole cover that had come loose.
Esteban Ocon's Alpine was damaged in the same way before the session was cut short.
Vasseur said Sainz's car had a damaged chassis, engine and battery and would miss the second session if it happened.
Having said that, I will be forever grateful to Liberty Media for giving me back my weekends.....
-
Sounded like the Vegas track was an ice rink for practice too. Cold, rainy, fresh oily pavement. Now they have obstacles like manholes. This weekend will be like MarioKart. Hopefully it dries up and everyone stays safe so we can forget about that cringe-fest of a opening ceremony.

What is the rationale for a 10 place grid penalty for Sainz after the track attacked his car?
-
@mclaincausey WHAT?! now I gotta look this up. that sounds bogus.
-
HAHA, it does seem like they do it for the hype a lotta times. Thats unbelievable they gave him a 10-spot for repairs when a track defect jumped up and bit him.

I’m wondering when the mods will change this thread title to “Motor Circus” to keep the forum a credible place.

I think Toto cunted his “friend” Vasseur on that penalty. Unfair exploitation of force majeure and completely unsporting.
-
In theory I like WEC more than F1, I just haven't figured out how to watch it. I also love WRC.
Anyway--this fucking car is my favorite thing right now in going fast on 4 wheels (can't say "racing" because it's not a regulation race car). I just love the way she sounds and obviously her performance is just insane. Porsche's erstwhile absence in F1 is a gaping void--my favorite race car manufacturer by a long shot and probably the most storied. Shout out the the driving on this lap too.... especially considering the G forces, a monumental achievement.

he topped out very quickly on that straight, that thing GETS. I have no idea how you can control a car so precisely when your head is bouncing around the cabin like a futbol in the dryer.

Yeah like coming out of the turn that electric motor just PULLS that thing up to speed. What an amazing machine.
I want to see the McMurtry Speirling on the ‘ring next.

There's a first time for everything. I totally agree with Max,,,,,,,,
-
Max’s takes past couple of years have been pretty good on a lot of topics IMO. I hate how much I agree with him.
But WHAT A RACE! It was so good. What a great surprise. They really need to make a few changes going forward like most obviously doing it earlier in the season but excellent motor racing.
-
I like Max, but I wanted to see Checo or Leclerc on top. Bummer to see Lando biff it. The race did turn out great, good action, better than I thought.
-
Yeah I was pulling for Lando. That one hurt

This is how a race engine should sound. What a beast. This makes me wish V12s and Cosworth would return to F1 and reaffirms Gordon Murray’s place in the pantheon. Top Gear also have a more in depth review worth a watch but this is all about the sound and the (12k) RPMs
