IHJ-35-BLK - Japanese Horsehide Rider’s Jacket - Black (Tea-Core Dyed)

@WhiskeySandwich thank you my dude! I thought your leather skills would def come in handy here. I read some stuff about deglazing online — some people online said with alcohol — but that sorta felt like too much of a big move, and I’m not sure I’d wanna push it that far. The soap and water thing does seem like a great way to just dull any shiny topcoat. I’m gonna try that! I’ve been just throwing it around and being fairly careless with it, but short of dragging it through gravel I think it’s gonna stay shiny as-is.
-
@popvulture I am by no means skilled in leather, but I dabble and experiment bit. I think the trick here would be to alter the surface texture of it by ever so slightly abrading it, rather than taking chemicals or anything to it, for sure. Good luck and be sure to show us how it goes!

Wiped it down with a little bit of Dawn and water, let it sit for a sec then used just water to wipe it down again. It’s hanging up in the sun. Still shiny, but I definitely think this took it down at least a notch or two.

@popvulture i'm interested in how things go. Def better to incrementally adjust than to just hit it with some rubbing compound on an orbital

If UH flannels fit me well in a large, should I go with a large in this jacket? Thanks
-
Hello there, does someone have recent pictures of this beauty ? Specially with traces of worn.
Im interested in buying one.
-
You’re absolutely right mate! No significant progress compared to the last pics in the thread but I’m happy to share any pics + experience with the leather etc..
-
@weftyarn thank you mate. How have you size this jacket ?
I checked the chart, and seems like I should take an XL (usually wear XL in Western UHF).
-
been wearing my horse a lot too and noticed a week or two back the first bit of tea core is showing through on the pocket. Likely a result of the cuff zips scuffing up the surface. Been treating it generally without regard or rather no different than a denim jacket. This is my first leather jacket and first tea core anything, but it seems like it's gonna take a lot of wear to get more character.
For sizing, I had a little trouble getting it right. I'm mostly a solid XL in western UHF's and went with a Large in the 54 after first getting an XL. The opening/waist and lengths were the deciding factors for me. (5'10 and 175)
-
I went for XXL in the 54 (same as my typical UHF western shirt size).
I could have downsized to XL, but that would have been on the short side for my long torso. Also I love that I’m now able to layer the horse over the 14Oz hoodie or a Waffle + UHF.
Best bet is always to go by the measurement charts paired with how you want to wear it.

Hello, new around and wanted to ask a specific question.
Waldes vs YKK zips on a jacket like this one….does this come down to simply YKK was put on for the North American market and Waldes for everywhere else, or how does that work with Iron Heart? Is one more coveted than the other?
Thanks!

@dmashbur the zips on our jackets are consistent regardless of the country they are sold to. I am not sure how to answer the rest of your question, I am afraid.
Do they both zip the same side or is that also inverted?
Is there any other differences?

@Alex said in IHJ-35-BLK - Japanese Horsehide Rider’s Jacket - Black (Tea-Core Dyed):
Between what and what?
Iron Heart use the same zips on every unit of the same SKU for sales internationally and domestically
I’m trying to see the differences between buying one Ihj-35 vs another. As I tried on a recent production sz 40 with ykk zips, but just bought a sz 40 (online international, won’t be here for a bit) with Waldes zips. Was curious if this was a different jacket entirely for a different market.
For example…The shop Vancouver shows pics with Waldes. iron heart main website has YKK. Other shops such as Weathered Fig show YKK in pictures but description says Waldes.
So
1- does this come down to a different season/sku production only? To decide which zips there will be?
2- the ykk Ihj-35 has the zips on the right side, Waldes is on left. What’s the reasoning behind this?
3- I see the Waldes has a lighter grey liner, the ykk models have black, are there any other differences?
Thanks for the help!!

OK, now I am with you. Thanks for the context.
So occasionally we update zips from production run to another, but only (to my knowledge) when we lose access to the original zip (Talon/YKK on some work pants, for eg in the past)
The latest batch (and for as long as I can recall, at least 2020 onwards) all have used YKK, so I suspect anyone using imagery / copy referencing Waldes either has old stock, or just has not updated their websites

Ah gotcha thanks so much!
I had edited my original message, one last question.
-The ykk models have zipper on right side as opposed to Waldes on left. What is the reasoning behind that? As I noticed all my other jackets (from Europe and Asia) usually have zipper on left as well.

@Alex haha I like the small intricate details of brands like IH. Sorry for such specific questions
