@darbycrash No it does not and is a necessary step. Edit (Here is the reasoning): The recommended method with UHR is to soak first, then wash. This because it is loomstate. The soak activates the cotton fibres and embeds the stitching, the wash gets the shrinkage out.
Sorry, if this is a dumb question. I am probably going to answer my own question. But on a new pair, I assume the washing process in the machine does not require any special detergent. Just the action of the cold water and agitation is what I'm after here for my UHR denim?

@goosehd thanks!

I'm adding my pre and post soak/wash data points for anyone who may find it helpful in the future. My actual measured waist is 32.5''. I used the IH way of measuring:
Prewash:
Waist: 16.5''/42cm
Front Rise: 10.4''/26.5cm
Back Rise: 14.2''/36cm
Thigh: 11.5''/29cm
Knee: 7.6''/19.5cm
Hem: 7.3''/18.5cm
Inseam: 36.5''/92.5cmPostwash:
Waist: 16.1''/41cm
Front Rise: 10.1''/25.5cm
Back Rise: 13.8''/35cm
Thigh: 11''/28cm
Knee: 7.6''/19.5cm
Hem: 7.3''/18.5cm
Inseam: 35.2''/89.5cmI was advised to buy the denim prewashed to fit my waist size properly, and then it will shrink approx 1 inch afer a soak/wash, but eventually will stretch back to the original size. The inseam I was told will shrink approx 2inches but will not stretch back.
Following the instructions from IH and above posts, I flipped them inside out and soaked the new denim in hot water for 1 hour in my bathtub. Then straight to the washing machine using cold water and low/no spin cycle. Hang dry.
Thoughts: My first heavy, raw unsanforized/shrink to fit from Iron Heart. Super heavy, hard and crispy. I spent 5minutes trying to button it up at first. My fingers were blue from the Indigo and my thumbs were sore because the denim is so heavy. After the soak and wash, I tried to flip the wet denim back outside in, and almost gave up as the pant leg was stuck in a giant wet ball because I couldn't get them past the knees. Finally flipped them around. Wore them today and they definitely need to be worked in. Tight around knees, a bit of space around the butt, but I think they will conform around me after a few wears. Extremely happy with them and glad I took the plunge.

When it says "will shrink up to 1 inch in waist"
I assumed that meant, across, laying flat measurement.Or does it mean 1 inch in circumference?
-
@99Tjadams gonna say it’s a total of 1”. So if you’re measuring flat, it would be .5” and then doubled.
So for example, if you measured flat across and for 15” then doubled that, you’d have a 30” waist.
Check out how IH measures for the most accurate correlation to what you’re measuring at home to how they measure there at IHUK.

I’m going in circles every day trying to decide between these or a 777 coming soon.
As far as I’ve read the top block in the 777 is a little tighter, and with a slightly wider knee the thigh region should have a little more room.
Is that correct?
The measurements between the two are similar but I image they fit/feel much different.(Also difference in rise of course)

My 555 UHR arrived today and I’m super stoked! Shout out to @Graham for assisting me along the way.
I went with a tag 32 based on the measurements, but after 13 years of being a bike messenger with 6 of those spent racing professionally I’ve got these thicc thighs and often times it makes sizing difficult.
Pre soak, everything feels great but the thighs are about as snug as I can do. Given your collective experience, will the thighs return to current state after a soak, wash, and breaking in? If so, it’s totally workable.
That said it’s entirely possible the 555 isn’t the right cut for me. The 666 UHR in the closest waist size looks like it has a slimmer thigh so it seems like that might be out of the running for me. Would a 777 be a better choice? 888? I ask about those because I think in general I prefer the taper, however I may just require a classic straight leg for my build in which case a 634 may be in order.
Any and all input and criticism is welcome. Thanks in advance!
