Yeah man @T4920 they absolutely do use heritage methods that are destined to wear out sooner and that actual wearing out itself is prized (see wabi sabi). At the end of the day that isn’t that different from how we all appreciate fades, it’s just a different evolution.
Even Iron Heart is using chain stitching in places where it has no practical benefit over a lock stitch and only disadvantages relative to more modern techniques, and using felled seams perhaps in part to mitigate some of those disadvantages.
I think IH does the best job of balancing modern and heritage techniques.

found out i have to start going into the office full time.
Look at it as an excuse to buy some more office-appropriate stuff from IH. There's chinos, the herringbone trousers, maybe even a pair of ducks...

i had a complete dissertation written out ready to respond, read it and was…yep. this is a rant. so i put my big boy pants on (PIHXHS) and goin for a ear bleeding drive to Front242 / Dead Kennedys!

my first denim jacket in 25+ years
wow, what's in the race?
-
@Tago-Mago lefty OD was my first type 3 ever. Spoiled for life and I recommend it
-
@Tago-Mago I can only comment on the 16oz in jacket form, I already had the jeans in the same denim. I went for the 16oz as it’s a breathable denim so the jacket would be good year-round - breezy in summer over a T, but easy to layer in winter.
Evo is just getting started, it seems like the elbows (both combs and outside) and the denim around the hand warmer pockets is where it’s going to get the most prominent fades.
-
@Tago-Mago How tall are you? Just curious by what you are looking for in length. Personally, I like the old unmodified jackets because they were shorter in the torso as I'm only 5'10".
-
@Tago-Mago Makes sense and the modified will definitely work better for you.
-
@Tago-Mago interesting, for me it's the possibiliy to combine with existing stuff. Where I like high oz in pants (21 oz+), I prefer lighter oz (10-14 ish) in jackets. And then it's the colour combination. Since I mostly wear blue denim in pants, I prefer non-denim colours with the jackets. Like OD, olive, black, brown duck or a light corduroy. The fit, at least if it's close to the classical IH type III fit of the 526, always pleases me. (but I'm 1.8m)
-
Summer still needs to hit us but we’re hardcore denim enthusiasts can’t we just skip summer?
-
@endo makes sense. I may be completely wrong but I'd assume that the jacket will fade slower than the trousers, so even if I were to pick a regular indigo type 3 for example there would be enough contrast to a pair of faded 21oz or 25oz. Plus, I also have a pair of 14oz 555s, so I'm all over the place in terms of denim weight
Having said that, right now I'm favouring something OD or indigo/black. Or even the SBG. Too many choices... -
-
@Tago-Mago you've come far my young padiwan. It is now time for @Matt to take over in your training
-
@Tago-Mago my advice, consider the SBG, makes a great combination with any denim pant, 2nd the OD, not IB IMO
