Iron Heart Split Steer Modified Type III Jacket - Black just purchased this jacket went out last night and I noticed in the morning I was getting alot of tanning transfer on to my shirt, is there anything I can do to stop this or do I just wear dark tops for a while until this stops.any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Thinking about getting this one while sale is up. From the size chart I should go down from my usual western size XXL, but would I be able to wear it with for example my 295bb or 14oz sweater?
And how is it in the cold, does it keep warm? Because I would want to wear it as much as possible when I spend that money...
-
@Giles thank you Giles!! Hope someone can help me work this out.

@FlavourFade hey brother. I took mine in my normal size Large. It’s a really easy wearing cut. It wears super comfortable over a UHF with lots of mobility. It’s one of my favorite features of the jacket, how easy it is to throw over and layer without restricting movement. I’d think it would be just as easy over the 295.
-
@Mizmazzle thanks a bunch! How do you feel about wearing it in the colder months? I mean it's clearly no light summer jacket
-
@FlavourFade it’s a heavy jacket. Really warm especially when layered. But pretty versatile too. Like I wore it in the spring time with just a tee when it was warming up outside and it was great. But in the coldest days layers will be key.
-
@Mizmazzle Sounds great. Just have to figure out how to deal with the sleeves, they are about 2 inches too long for me...
-
@FlavourFade yup! Sleeves are long. I had mine shortened. Super easy for a furrier to do. Came out great. Looks good as new! Fit is perfect now.

I've thought about this Type lll Jacket in the Black Split Steer back and forward since Early Summer trying to make up my mind between it and the 19oz Left Hand Twill OD Denim Type lll ( when also still in stock), to complement my 14oz OD Type lll.
When I've finally realised that I live in Scotland and and that we only really get on average 5 days a year which are dry enough to consider wearing the Steer in comfort ( based on this year), with 3 of these possibly being too hot, leaving a grand total of 2 probable days to wear the Steer, and therefore make the decision that a 19oz OD Type lll would be a much better choice, there all gone.
So it looks that I'm on about a 9 Months wait then to snag an XL 19oz OD.
You live and learn.

@M800sct1 but, man, you could live off the memories of those two glorious days the rest of the year….
-
Worth thinking about then.
Maybe get some wear and Patina after 20 years or so. -
@M800sct1 To be fair, I got caught out in my split steer a few years back in torrential rain and it got fully soaked clean through and it was no worse for wear after drying out again, while it certainly isn't a rain coat it doesn't really need babying either..on the days it's cold but dry this is the king of Type IIIs in my book
-
@M800sct1 I have the split steer and it functions like a tank in the snow and rain. I took a strip of the split suede from when I had the sleeves shortened and pegged it to my fence in the backyard...its been out there for damn near 10 months in wind, rain, snow, and extreme heat....still feels just the same as the split steer on my jacket itself...
Also, the cotton of the LEfty OD would just soak up rain water like a sponge. The SPlit Steer water just rolls right off for a time until it soaks in....then boom. Dries out good as new.
-
Mm. More food for thought then. I thought I had finally made up my mind too.

I know I certainly have a Pair of Lace Up Boots in Roughout and Engineers in Roughout that have been wet right through on a few occasions and they always brush up as good as new after being allowed to dry naturally at room temperature.
I'm between sizes in Iron Heart Westerns. Standard Indigos normally Large and OD's normally XL. A mix of both sizes in UHF's, Large in Kersey and XL in Serge.
Defo think the Steer would be better to try in the Large allbeit the Chest looks a little neat. The Dimensions of the sleeves along with the waist and opening is putting me off the XL in comparison to my 14 oz OD type lll in XL.Anyone had the opportunity to try on both the L and XL in the Steer before!?

@M800sct1 I'm a large in every IH shirt I own (quite a few of them at this point)
I have this jacket in a size Large as well. I love the fit because I can easily and comfortably layer it over a UHF and have excellent range of motion still.I could size down to a medium if I wanted a trimmer fit over a tee shirt only...but I wanted to be able to wear it over a flannel or other IH shirt so large was the way for me...
I did have the sleeves shortened on mine due to the arm length being quite long.
