@Mizmazzle @popvulture Great advice gentlemen!! @MassiveThighs In agreement! When sizing XHS, buy them to fit the waist the way you like as they will shrink with wash but stretch back out with wear. The only areas to be concerned with are the legs (thighs, calves, etc.). The area lost in shrinkage will just about be impossible to gain back.
Will front and back rise stretch back with wear?

@sabergirl I agree here and this is how I size my XHS. Especially with 555XHS you run the risk of tight fitting massively heavy 25oz. BUT to add I prefer to not size down and have XHS that are looser in the waist and I wear a belt. This is not what everyone (likely even most folks here) likes to do but having tried both ways, I now choose comfort every time. Just wanted to chime in and share this side with Anne here.
This also works well for me because I like to fade my XHS heavily and wear the same pair almost every day. I need them to be a little loose and comfortable.

Love the comments here and a great example of how fit is subjective! @MassiveThighs if I was advising how I would want them to fit, I would be inclined to say trying a size smaller would be the way to go. I want my XHS to fit spot on in the waist out of the bag. In recent times though, I have had to size my jeans with my thighs being the most important measurement and I am more than happy to wear a belt, which is something for you to consider of course if you have other important dimensions. You will get some stretch back in the rise with wear and sitting/squatting etc but the initial shrinkage with a careful wash shouldn't be too much in those areas anyway.
Your initial assessment "0.75" too big, a soak will get these right", to me would suggest you want a pair starting that 0.75" smaller in the waist from the get go.

First XHS for me, 555 cut, size 34. I am 184cm and 80 kg, with -a bit- wide hips. I bought it when I was 84 kg and was uncomfortable while sitting. Haven't soaked/washed yet. Waistband now sit comfortably on my belly (I need belt if will stretch more) and movement is not restricted . Not a super slim fit though... What do you think?
-
They feel comfortable. I think if I size down, everything will still be still good, except from the hips, they will be too tight. Other option is trying 888, size 33... Also I don't know how they will fit after soaking/washing them. My other 25oz pair is a Samurai S710. I sized up because it was unsanforized and unwashed. Perfect fit after washing them but everything -except length- stretched back and now they are a bit loose.
-
@boutsk I think those look great! You have a nice slim silhouette but still looks like you have room for movement and comfort.
Thighs, waist, and length will come in with a wash. Waist will stretch back out...thighs and length will not.
It looks like you could come in on the thighs some, but that may lose you a bit of the easy comfort you have now. 888 is the perfect solution for thigh comfort but still a slim taper. 888 is my favorite cut. So easy to wear and look great!

Just thought I would share my excitement for a new pair.
I got the 555-SBG a month ago and love them so much I decided to try the 25oz
I am a bit shocked how much stiffer these are than the 21oz
I plan to wear these at work as much as possible, was tempted by the lower rise 777, due to having a bit of a beer belly that sometimes pushes high rise jeans down to my hips, but the stiffness in these is fighting back. The rear feels low when crouching so I am glad I didn’t go 777.
I don’t cuff so hemmed to 30” (my inseam is 28/29) only regret is not having hemmed to 31, I didn’t realize the creasing behind the knees would also take up a half inch of length. (My opinion, not fact)Tried on for an evening to stretch the wait out a bit, then soaked in the tub hot water, minimal agitation, crossed fingers that the thigh didn’t shrink too much, then air dry overnight, wore slightly damp following evening, went for a hike, now fully dry today and absolutely stoked.
Size 36 5'9" 200lbs
Measured from IH / online chart/ after hot soak
Waist - 37.0 / 37.5 / 38
Thigh - 13.6” /13.6/13.6(12.5 from crotch)
Front Rise -12.0" /11.7 / 11.4
Rear Rise - 16.6" /16.2 / 16”
Knee - 9.1" / 9.0 / 8.9
Hem - 8.5" / 8.6 / 8.5 -

@sabergirl took your advice and just kept this one. Hot soaked for 45 minutes. Definitely shrunk and was worried it shrunk too much as my thighs barely fit, but they have stretched out nicely. Waist shrunk giving me a slightly tighter fit. Just got a pigeon tree belt, so I’ll rock it with that.
Thanks for the advice y’all

@99Tjadams I like this fit

-

Have you tried the 888?
Coming from N&F easyguy I assumed the 888 was my cut. After pouring over charts for weeks, and realizing my MIJ13 easyguy has too baggy of knees, I went with 555.
I have a pair of sz40 888s that are huge one me.(bought 2nd hand cheap)
The ideal hem for me is 8-8.5”
Close or over 9” hem and they feel baggy on me, as I don’t cuff high, they cover too much boot.I have been losing weight, so already pouring over what will be next if my waist drops, I think the 888 is ideal for smaller waist sizes to maintain that 13-14” thigh and 8-8.5” hem.
Will probably spoil myself with a 25oz OD or a 21/23 RAW in a 888 if I stick to my diet and have to size down again. (Already on the restock notification list)

@99Tjadams I feel ya, I wish the thighs were slightly bigger on these 555 and smaller waist. Other than that, I love the slim taper down as my calf genetics are poverty
-
Agreed, as I feel like if I lose waist size it will be a big jump to get the same proportions in a 888.
Jump down to an 35” 888XHS
Also don’t want the diaper butt I was getting with the N&F cut.
The measurements do seem to differ between fabrics though, so I’m planning ahead and taking notes on what to jump on in future releases before they sell out.Fun and addictive hobby.

@MassiveThighs I hope you’ll be very happy with your new jeans. Now just wear em hard and don’t look back!

The waist ain’t too bad!
-
@sabergirl absolutely, oversized with suspenders
