Catch of the day [Fishing]

T-5 days (to coin a @jordanscollected ism) before I hit Morocco for a weeks Blue Fin Tuna fishing. Jeez, am I looking forwards to it, I have a little trepidation wondering how the new hip will hold out, but I will give it as much max as I am able....

@Giles that's an amazing trip to have on the horizon. Here's to no faceplants, taking up ill, or having to drive many hours for a Covid test interrupting your fishing.

Oh, and I will be putting the IHJ-136-BLK sample through some serious testing.....

Snuck away yesterday morning to go salmon fishing with a buddy of mine. Not bad for a few hours on the water - 4 Spring and 2 Coho.

@Denman-John Lake Ontario salmon is god awful with soft mushy textured meat…I assume the fresh caught fish there are a tad better
Is there anything that you do in preparation to eat them? Smoke, salt, other…

@goosehd The salmon we catch in the ocean here are usually really good. When we fly fish for salmon in the river, they are usually pretty long in the tooth and tired from swimming up river and throw most of those back . Yesterday we had our first fish within 5 minutes after putting our lines in the water. This time we just cleaned the fish and vacuum sealed them > freezer. My buddy has a home made smoker made out of an old fridge and it makes some of the best smoked salmon around.
I grew up in Toronto & Montreal and we never ate anything caught in Lake Ontario back in the day. I’m glad to hear times are changing.

@Denman-John I think you misread my post...the salmon here are god awful...I tried smoking some Lake Ontario salmon last year and I couldn't eat it. The first time I've thrown out fresh caught fish and couldn't finish it as a meal.

@Giles I think you’re setting a really bad example with this shameless display of self-restraint
Just been told to take a few more because one of the guys coming this time, has none

So here this about the average size I use for Tuna in Morocco....
In May, I am going to Oman after predominantly Giant Trevally, I will use this some of the time:
"Some", because it is exhausting, both to cast and then to retrive very quickly whilst bouncing the tip of the rod (this creates a darting splashing on the surface). I can do about 20 casts, then move on something less tiring to fish with....
