I highly recommend checking all of these out. There are a few I missed this year that are pretty great…

@seawolf I think it’s another brilliant effort. We got to see them again a couple nights in Memphis!

Worlds collide in the best way. Danny Carey playing King Crimson with BEAT.
-
@mclaincausey Wow. That must have been pretty special! Their tour keeps missing San Diego, and I really need them to come back here.
-
@seawolf SD and socal in general seem to get the shaft on hippie music for some reason. We caught an Infamous Stringdusters + Greensky Bluegrass show there last time I was in town at a cool venue that I think is fairly new.
Did you see Gizz out there? Not sure if you’re a fan but I almost came out for that.
I’ll ping you next time I’m out there. I thought you’d relocated to the PNW!

@mclaincausey I saw BS at the SDSU outdoor amphitheater 2 years ago, and he also played the year before, so I'm not sure why he's skipping us this year. Gotta spread the love I guess.
I've never listed to Gizz. Any recommendations where to start? As I understand, they have a deep catalog.
Please do! Still in SD, and I'd love to meet up for a beer or a burger, or both. I know a place

@seawolf
The question of where to start with Gizz is a difficult one because they are so varied and so prolific. It’s such a big problem that there’s a site to help: https://kglw.net/page/gizzverse-guideFor me personally where I would recommend starting might be Omnium just because it cuts a bit more of a cross section of the styles they do than the more themed albums.
-
@mclaincausey Well, that's pretty great. Thank you! I read about them years ago and the idea of themed albums reminded me a lot of Ween. So many different genres and all executed fairly well.
I'm traveling for Christmas, so it'll be good to have some new music to try out.
Back to BS for a minute. I have an earworm right now that I can't shake, and I'm okay with it. "My Alice" is haunting me. I love the 6/8 time signature, the melody, and the clever lyrics. But it's so dark!
-
@mclaincausey I just followed a flowchart-type website to identify a handful of albums to start with. I think I downloaded 6 total. Should be interesting. Thanks!
-
@seawolf always nice to see somebody new falling down the Gizz rabbit hole.
Who knows, you might even end up in Bulgaria next June for the unofficial Gizz x Iron Heart gathering!
Booked your flights yet @Mizmazzle ?
-
@T4920 argh!! That saga ended in a rather shit way. Our friends getting married had us postpone getting tix. They ultimately told us they are moving the wedding back a year. By that time Morgan had approved a work partner to take a vacation right at the time of the show (they can’t both take leave at the same time)
Long story short…we are coming to the UK at the end of June to give our Brit friends a piece of our mind in person for vexing our Bulgaria plans, visiting the brethren of Gosport, hunting for leprechauns in Ireland,and hitting the Colorado Gizz shows at the end of summer.
-
@Mizmazzle Intersting. Do they line up with classic 80s/90s thrash like Megadeth/Metallica/Anthrax? Or is it a modern spin?
-
@Mizmazzle you’ve piqued my interest
-
@Mizmazzle ahh that sucks but at least you guys will still get to see them and enjoy some time over here!
