IH-526J-SBG - 21oz Selvedge Denim Modified Type III Jacket - Superblack (Fades To Grey)
-
Would if be fair to assume this will be the same sizing as the previous run of IH-526-sbg? the one from 2016, I saw the size chart for that jacket on the old forum thread and found the small size to be perfect with the shorter length body and longer sleeves. I find most of the new modified jackets to be crazy long on me but granted I have a weird build, short torso long arms etc. I'm basically a 5ft 9 gibbon monkey lol.
-
@jcarney1995 stuff will generally always vary from run to run, could be in the ballpark but always best to just go off the new chart whenever it’s available.
-
@popvulture Ill just have to hope the denim gods are looking down on me when they release them
-
Whoa! For some reason I thought this T3 had never been done in SBG before. Guess this brings up a question or two.
- Is every IH with pockets “modified?” Meaning slightly longer in length?
- The size chart from 2016 release seams to be on the shorter side regarding length. My dream would be to have the shoulder at 18” the chest at 21.5 rhe sleeve at 25”ish and the most difficult to find for me…length of 25.5”
-
@Mizmazzle My understanding is that the OG Levis Type III had no pockets, therefore any Type III with pockets is inherently "modified."
-
Same way I understood it ^^^
-
Interesting, though, that the old one has pockets and isn’t labeled as modified.
-
@Mizmazzle yeah a lot of times original spec type 3s are way short, and in my experience, 2s and 1s even more so (or maybe just boxier).
-
@popvulture I think that’s what got my wheels turning…hoping, really, that the new release will be longer in length.
-
@Mizmazzle I have a weirdly short torso, so I like short jackets But not too short. I think 25.5 is perfect for me.
-
@seawolf haha. Totally. Sometimes it confuses me that a dude as tall as you wears the same size shirts and jackets as me. Haha
@popvulture guess them old cowboys didn’t like sitting on their jacket tails when they rode the horsies? Was that the logic?
-
@Mizmazzle Me and my wife are the same height when we sit sent to each other, but I'm 6 inches taller than her.
I think that's exactly why the OG type III is so short.
-
@Mizmazzle For sure. It's good to have things to look forward to. And we certainly can't afford to get everything we want all at once. Also, where's the fun in that?
I'm holding out for a special jacket too

I think it’s for two reasons: people wore higher waisted pants, and they tucked in their shirts. It’s a really cool look doing both of those things, but at the same time it’s not very modern, so it can definitely make you stick out a bit, which may or may not be ideal.
I’ve found that it’s sometimes tough to pull off this look, because most modern shirts are just too short to tuck in without having to worry about them coming loose all the time. Conversely if you buy certain shirts that are made to wear tucked in (vintage pearl snaps or nice dress shirts, for example), they can look awful untucked. Further part of this potential mishmash, a denim jacket that’s on the short side might look weird with an untucked shirt.
Anyway, I’m rambling. TLDR: I think the modified lengths work better with the way people dress now but YMMV.
-
@Mizmazzle They were only short for the the tall guys on the forum...for us mortals, they were perfect and I very much miss them. Most of my Type 3's from IH are the unmodified (shorted in length and no pockets) because they fit me perfectly. 5'10" and normal torso.

As a rule of thumb I like it to hang inch passed my belt for jacket length but I suppose it depends how high you wear your jeans. I find the rise to be really low in most cuts, bar the 888s
