Jacques Marie Mage (JMM) - Sunglasses and Frames…

The JMM pricing dynamics have been interesting. They seemed to never go on sale and be tightly controlled and they rose in price. I read about capacity constraints at the ateliers, which makes sense given not many operate at those levels or make the investment to cure huge slabs of acetate.
Now I'm seeing significant sales and discounts all of a sudden as they open their boutique in Milan.
I just find these kinds of things interesting and am curious what goes on behind the scenes.

@mclaincausey I wonder if they have priced themselves out of their core market and are trying to recapture some of those clients. There are a few brands out there that their prices have risen significantly over the last 4-5 years and I think it may be a correction of sorts especially with the global economies softening the way they have.
-
@mclaincausey there seems to be less money floating around than there was during the pandemic, when zero percent interest rates and government intervention were the order of the day. Perhaps people aren't willing to spend so much on a discretionary purchase, as @goosehd speculated.
(As an aside, a couple of software subscriptions have seen 50% increases this year, which largely seem to be justified by investments in AI technology that I'm probably not going to use.)

I work in luxury fashion and this is definitely through. especially between 2020-2023. lots of luxury fashion brands are starting to feel the backlash of the aggressive price increases.
-
Meanwhile Rolex just keeps on ticking with price increases
-
@mclaincausey I damn near shat myself when I saw how much my last Rolex rose in price since Fall 2023...It has went from absurd to ludicrous.
-
Right now is the best time to go to JMM Milan. They don’t have global blue tax free set up so they’re just discounting 13%. So I jumped on it.
-
@JerkStore
do they have a webshop ?
as mentioned earlier, eye-oo in Italy has 25% discount on many glasses. -
No. Just a brick and mortar near the Four Seasons.
-
@Steffen
They’re typically all done In limited runs.
For example my ichikawas are number 234/500
And my Richard’s are 190/350. If you see something you like jump on it. I believe the Enzo’s have a larger run seemingly more of them around.To answer plainly I don’t believe they do re runs of “old” frames. At least that’s how it was explained.

@thehambergerlar Just a quick heads up that the post you replied to was a few years old and the poster for the question hasn’t been on the forum for about the same length of time. You probably will not get a response from him.

@goosehd
Fair enough! Missed the date there for sure. -
@mclaincausey actually their resale value has come down. they've quite a few number of precious metals (full rose/ yellow gold) models available at retail.
problem is since the resale value has come down, a lot of yellow and rose gold models from a couple years back are under retail too.
-
@JerkStore are they actual JMM boutiques or eyewear retailers?
-
@louisbosco the store in Milan is their first outside of LA. It is a JMM store and not a reseller.
-
Actual boutique and a gorgeous space.
-
@JerkStore get any pics?
-
No. I was too excited about the straight 13% discount because their tax refund global blue wasn't set up.
