@Alex ah, makes sense, that is a smart compromise. Raising a puppy is a treat, they become part of the family. I love dogs so much. Just got back from a neighborhood walk with our Rosie.

Picking him up March 2nd - 10 week old Australian Kelpie to go with our 12yo Border Terrier

Just got this puppy! We are waiting on the results of a DNA test but the rescue thinks she is a Border Collie/Lab mix. I also see maybe some Heeler or German Shepherd.
She is sweet, playful, and very smart. Potty trained her in just a day, already knows sit, crate and place commands. She is going to be a great dog.

6 weeks old when she was brought to my local rescue. Ears still floppy

8 weeks old on the day I picked her up last weekend

@Alex We’ve been looking at Boykin Spaniels. They look just like the working dog in your photos, but only get to around 30 lbs. They were bred as water foul dogs small enough not to tip over duck boats when they leap off the side for a retrieve, and small enough for old men to easily pick up and lift back into the boat.
