Does anyone know if I can play dvds from the UK (region 1) on my year old Dell laptop bought & owned here in the US (region 2)?

http://www.dkszone.net/find-region-code-dvd-drive-driveinfo
to find out if your drive is region protected.
If it is, search your drive model & see if there's a firmware hack to make it region free.
