IH-666S-SLB - 16oz Slubby Selvedge Denim Slim Straight Cut Jeans - Indigo
-
Hi people, I just signed up and this is my first post, for my potentially first IH item: the SLB-666
I went to a local store today and tried the 666 slubby in W32 and W33.
W32 felt tight around the waist and there was not too much „leftover“ material in the crotch area, sitting rather slim.
W33 felt more comfortable, I could easily put 2-3 fingers between the waistband and my stomache. There was some „leftover“ material left and right of my holy part.
So the question to you all: after a couple of months and potentially also some
washes, how much did the waist and hip area stretch? Did it jump back to the initial measurement when washing? This would help me in deciding whether to size up or not. Thank you!
If it helps: I usually wear size 30/31 (Nudie) and size 32 (Momotaro, 0105 cut; PBJ, 019 cut)

These stretch a lot and quickly. Some are getting close to two inches. If the smaller waist is snug but still able to be buttoned I’d say that’s your sweet spot. The hips on most 666 don’t change much. It’s really just a matter of getting used to the fit. A wash would tighten them up again but they stretch back out.

Got these and pleased with the fit so far, just started wearing them today. I had tried the regular 21oz in one size smaller and it was too snug being probably one size too small, and thicker denim, though this 666S-SLB cut seems to have about .5in more in the thigh for equivalent tag size, so works out nice for me. I wouldn't mind trying a cut with another cm or two in the rise, but this is a good middle ground. 10.7in, I think closer to 11 - 11.25in would be my sweet spot, glad these run closer to 11in than 10 in. Could try an 888 but the jump up to 888 cut rise and thighs is quite a bit. I think the thighs would definitely work out baggy for me. Probably because I'm shorter the waist / thigh ratio doesn't quite work for me. Anyway, fortunately these are right in my zone and feel good so far.
The denim feels quite soft, and you can feel the bumpiness of the slub. Very nice feel to it.

@plumdog Definitely one of the best fit's I've seen in this forum.

Yeah I really like the cut on these compared to some of the other 666 and 777 cuts, a bit of extra room around the thighs is nice, while still being fairly straight in the leg, not too much taper at the leg opening. In my photos the leg openings almost look a bit flared, but it's just how the fabric was puffed out a bit when first putting them on. I could pat them down and they would look straighter. I was fairly conservative with my inseam length for hemming, being the first pair I have got hemmed I didn't want to come up short. Should hopefully pan out fine with a bit of stacking after a wash. Can always do a little cuff if needed.
In hunting for a pair I noticed a lot of the other 666 / 777 cuts ran a bit low in the rise for me, or were too narrow in the thigh. There were a few that come close to these proportions, but weren't in stock. The IH-634S-SLB is also pretty close to this, quite a similar cut, tiny bit more room at the thigh and knee. Gives the possibility of the straighter overall look for those that want it, though perhaps a little roomy for me in the leg. Interestingly the IH-634 original denim is even more spacious in the leg opening / knee / thigh, I had considered them previously but figured 9in leg opening would be a bit baggy for me. IH seem to have figured out a nice middle ground with these SLB cuts. Works great for me, not sure how the taller folks find it.

@catdad Looking good. Mine are at a similar place. I’d be interested to know what slub fans think of these. Having worn mine a lot this summer, I enjoy them but they are the least “Iron Heart” pair of jeans I own. All the things I’ve heard about PBJ and seen with Samurai, are happening. Threads are busting, weft is popping, sections are thinning. It’s great fun. They will also almost certainly have a short life span.
