IH-777S-UHR - 21/23oz Ultra Heavy Raw Selvedge Denim Slim Tapered Cut Jeans
-
@super-thermite , just double checking, but when you say you're going dry, was that on 21oz or the UHR? Only asking so you don't end up with an unexpected pile of broken denim since IH directs the UHR needs that water and agitation to fix the construction stitching.
Wish I could pull off this cut, definitely looks great on you.

Hi everyone!!
I want to share my experience with these jeans, tag size 34; I´m more than pleased. First, I wore them for two weeks until they stretched 1 inch, then I put them in the washing machine at 40 degrees cycle for 90 min, drying them in a hanger, and another washing machine at 40 same drying
and here are the pre and post-wash.Cheers!!

Hi @super-thermite . I too channeled my inner Ruedi and went in dry with my UHRs despite the potential negative side effects of doing so (really enjoy the raw look). Like you I found sizing down to fit me better and they did stretch out to be quite comfortable. I’ve been wearing them pretty hard (hiking/mountain biking) and have experienced nothing bad yet. I’m approaching the 6 month mark and they are holding up exceptionally. I am however a bit concerned for shrinkage when I finally do decide to hand wash (aiming for a year) at which case am going to do my best to negate by using cold water. I also know there’s at least one other UHR fader out there that strictly used cold-hand washes on his pair and they turned out greattttt at the 2yr+ mark.
I’ve uploaded a few progress pics in this thread if you’re curious to see how my pair is looking and will also be posting an updated pic at the 6th month mark. Hope this helps with your decision.

Interesting @kelton I hope you keep updating this thread over the months. Since IH advises you to hot soak and wash to embed stitching and remove shrinkage. I'm curious how these fit over time and to see how they fade dry. Good luck. Such an awesome denim.

Wouldn’t recommend dry UHR, they’ll get trashed pretty quick. I think you’re going to need a size up to be able to soak all the shrinkage out and not be super uncomfortable in the thigh.

Hey, Oaktavia (big fan btw) I do see the pattern and it’s awesome that I have that info for making an informed choice. I’ve read all of these selections maybe five times. My gut says “DRY”. The other day, I stopped short of drying my wet hands on them.
Thank you, Heavy_blue I’ve been wearing raw denim since maybe 2014, so padawan? Idk about that but we are all learning. Kasi is the man! My concern with this lot of UHR denim is that it seems like a lot of people bought a pair, sized up and boiled their pants in hopes they would fit. Seems like a lot of people, including me ended up with at least a size too large. This is as unusable for me as a pile of shredded (but worn and loved) denim.
That’s issue 1. Issue 2 for me is that pre soak, this denim is remarkably breathable. It’s also rough and stiff but it’s conforming to my body. They feel the way I want them to and they look awesome. The blues are (for me) better and darker compared to the, actually two pairs I’ve boiled. Also the 555 in 31 still looks massive in the top block. And I don’t want my jeans to feel like sweats. I have sweats for that.
I’ll post pics later but these 777 are a perfect fit and I can do stacks. I have found that changing your cuff configuration will keep them from totally tearing at the fold.
Issue 3 for me is that I see that some people do the soak and wash stew and still blow out stitches early. I can repair them if I have to and I won’t be asking for free repairs from IH since, by not soaking, I’m violating the spirit of the program there.
Issue 4 for me is that I remember a time when we wore dry denim and expected it to fall apart. It was one of the goals, to destroy your jeans. I have a pair of TSG that Rainbow has turned into art.
I get that the guidelines are there to protect consumers from disappointment and I’m grateful that I can come here and learn. It’s why I chose the path that I did and I’ll keep you updated.
kelton thank you very much. You figured into my decision for sure and Diego shared shrinkage dimensions post cooking and it was after 3 weeks of wear, so that sealed the deal. Even when I do wash my jeans, it’s cold water in a tub. I’m not worried they will shrink too much. This machine wash and high temps guidance is anathema for me.
I absolutely love this place and I love learning so if I sound defensive or sarcastic it’s unintentional. Plenty of room for people to do stuff off label with their own purchases. It’s fun. If we all do it the same way, where’s the joy in that?

Matt correct those are the size 32. If you go up to the first post you’ll see a banging fit check. I’ll post a pic later of day 7 in the 777

@kelton:
Little update on my pair. About 5 months worth of wear here. Been wearing them extra hard lately-taking them hiking and mountain biking (still a bit of mud on them in these pics lol). Falling in love with them more and more every day!
This is what I’m talking about! You resurrected the thread, I think

@super-thermite Looks like you have a plan and thanks for understanding that everyone was just trying to help out. Good luck in your journey and keep us posted in your progress.

@super-thermite did you say you have the same build as Mo?!?!

Haha! Well, kind of. Bigger thighs with thinner lower legs and a bit of rear end with a narrow waist and hips. It’s a challenging fit and I’ve read that he’s gone from three months dry and then soak all the way to hot wash STF. We also kick the 555 back and forth with the 777 and can’t decide. 555 top block with 777 from the hips down would probably be perfection. To get the 555 top block to fit right means my thighs are sized out.

Just got my pair in the mail yesterday. Couldn’t buy direct from IH because there was no 35. Painfully slow waiting for them to arrive compared to the speed from IH but well worth the wait. They fit perfect. I won’t be soaking or washing them or anything unless they stretch too much. For now just going to wear them and enjoy the 5” cuffs.
