@prpx nice! Was just listening to Teenager of the Year the other day, would be way up in the list of my all time faves if I could ever commit to such a thing.
-
@popvulture - definitely agree. mine as well. the breakup of fantastic band resulted in two fantastic stories - frank black solo and the breeders. what more could you want. and i do think pixies broke up in time.
-
@Aetas - it is almost the same playlist, but on this live, Frank is with the band
-
@endo - yeah, pixies were (kind of are still) one of the greatest. i saw them couple of times, both with kim and paz in the lineup. I especially remember the first reunion tour. they all looked stoked to play those great songs with same love, and so awkward that they have to do it together on stage
Unfortunately couldnt find his live recordings with the band from that 2006 tour. it's like a bit tired version of his gigs with the catholics from mid 90's. Country rock vibe. -
@Aetas - i dont think you missed much to be honest. most of those songs from catholics era sounded waaay better on live concerts from the mid 90s. the newer ones sound ok. i truly appreciate FB, and i think he is one of the most interesting songwriters in last 35 years. but i also witnessed his music being dull when he and the bend are performing without much spark, this record is on that side of the table.

hollering and screaming dont age well

@GraemeE this was an interesting album. I’ve not heard of this artist before - thanks for sharing

@prpx I had a similar experience seeing them. First show was like their second or third after the big Coachella reunion iirc, and they were psyched. Amazing show. Second time was about a year later, still Kim in tow, but everybody looked miserable and played like they were just at work. That documentary about them is a pretty plain example of how much they dislike each other — so damn unfortunate because they really were the fucking best. Great shit don’t always last, though!

What i remember most from that documentary is an insight into Dave Loverings hobbies

@Aetas it's a great album of spoken word and smooth music
The composer is Mort Garson who you might recognize from Plantasia and many other rad lesser known albums

My favorite song of this record from 1995 is ‚FOR ALL I CARE‘.
Not much time for records at the moment, so I did this as a random pick tonight.
Lo and behold a good old Rock’n’Roller.
Loved Steve’s live performance back in the time of Dream Syndicate- The days of wine and roses Mindblowing for a seventeen year old.
Here his KEXP performance of ‚Amphetamine‘ with The Miracle 3.
