My buddy and I have been fishing together for over 20 years. Over the last 5-6 years we’ve been on the quest for golden trout. They are very rare. Hard to catch. And live in the most remote and difficult places to get to. For the last several years we’ve made an annual pilgrimage to The Wind River Range of Wyoming where golden trout can be found deep in the high alpine lakes. We’ve never been able to catch one.
This year, we hiked a total of 40 miles into the Winds. The lakes still had ice on them, but had started to thaw. Prime time for goldens before the temperatures warm and the golden trout swim deep into the lakes making them almost impossible to catch.
This year, our diligence paid off!!

@Mizmazzle amazing story and bond with your friend. Incredible scenery and finally found the trout!
-
@jordanscollected you get it dude!! It was all of that!! My buddy and I were hugging and laughing and just riding that wave of accomplishment. Still are a few days later. Will be for quite some time I’m sure haha.

Caught a few good ones today. 30” northern, and a couple decent bass that fought above their weight.
In a couple weeks I’m acquiring a Muskie rod so I’ll get skunked and a sore arm for that point forward.
-
@jordanscollected wow nice job man. Those fish are so beautiful. I grew up on a lake and fished a lot. Caught a fair share of bass and always wanted to snag a pike but never did. That pike is just so neat looking. Is that your boat?
-
@Oaktavia Thanks Man! That northern was bigger in real life. Super fat and healthy. A couple pics and he swam right off. They fight hard and have huge teeth.
Yes that my Lund boat. It’s smaller (16.5 feet) but has a nice 4-stroke motor and it gets around the lakes here perfect. It was handed down to me from my father when he retired. So it’s been in our family since ‘99 when it was new.
-
@jordanscollected I went Muskie fishing in Wisconsin once. And I did indeed get skunked and had a very sore arm. Fish of a thousand casts I believe they call them. Haha. That pike is a beauty dude. Those bass ain’t half bad either!!!
-
@Mizmazzle thanks dude! And unfortunately it’s “10,000 casts”
-
Thanks @Giles! Have you trolled behind Sakura yet?
-
PB northern today. 38”. Had another in the boat that was 36” and flopped into the water when I was measuring him. A third even larger that broke my line and 1 more that ran hard into the weeds and spit the hook.
What a day to hear the drag rip.
Saalim got skunked with his massive Muskie lures says, “I didn’t catch a fish and this was one of my favorite days on the water ever!”
