IHSH-397-IND - 21oz Sashiko Work Shirt - Indigo

Sorry @weftyarn that this has happened. I have passed the feedback on but I would definitely not button your shirt up when washing it, as @sabergirl said, just inside out with the sleeves pulled through. I always unbutton every button on any shirt (not just IH) as a super vigorous washing machine can cause all sorts of stress on the buttons
-
@AdamC no worries at all mate, will definitely go unbuttoned next time
Still I think it’s worth thinking about how the work shirt button threads fail so easily when everything else on these pieces is made to never ever break no matter what you throw at it.
Not just through washing but also through regular wear like it happened on my 307
I mean this in the most positive way
-
And Germans love things that are indestructible. A dangerous combo
-
The 397 is my only non-western IH shirt (I am addicted to snap buttons). I also wash inside out with all buttons fastened in a Samsung front loader on gentle cycle with the coldest wash setting. I am going to go as long as possible before laundering this shirt. I just love wearing it but I am leaving a trail of indigo everywhere!

We’ve had it confirmed from Japan that washing shirts with snaps or buttons done up is higher risk than needed, as sabergirl says there is an easy way to turn your shirt inside out without the buttons being done up. Care guidelines will be fine tuned to clarify.
I’ll speak to Haraki and see if we can get the factory to sew them on with double the thread, but his reply was ‘this doesn’t happen in Japan’ - so basically, we need to be more careful. Either way, will do what I can
-
yeah, I think China better at sewing buttons. Almost all Japan-made shirts I’ve got have this problem. I like to think it’s by design: Forcing the wearer to make a personal connection with the garment by re-sewing buttons back onto the garment. Good opportunity to swap out thread colors and if you loose ‘em the buttons themselves.
-
@Matt I wonder if more IH workshirts migrate to snaps (not buttons)…esp those with +9oz fabrics.
-
Well crap. I just did my first wash. Buttoned up and inside out. Hung up to dry without noticing any issues. Did measurements of chest and length pre-wash. Hoping for no shrinkage this the hang dry.
-
I love how this community and company can handle a problem without either flying off the handle and communicating honestly. I didn't scroll forever so I hope this is as correct as I think it is lol
-
There's been some shrinkage but I didn't have time to measure this am. It's about 99% dry at this point and the chest and length seem a bit tighter. Sleeves have not changed noticably. Fabric has brightened nicely.
-
@CosmoSix5 damn this is cool, kind of looks like what i'd imagine blue dragon scales to look like
-
Short cold wash, hang dry. Lost .5" in chest and length. Yikes.

Tried ironing it? Whenever I wash a UHF I worry it’s shrunk, then I run the iron over it and it fits the same as before
