301 is a true taper, 555 i would consider a slim straight
the 301 cut is uniquely slim below the knee while remaining comfortably unslim in the top block because it is tapered from the outseam (hence the lack of a selvedge edge)
the 555 and other slim straight cuts that retain the selvedge edge are only tapered from the inseam, the outseam has to remain straight, so to achieve a slim lower leg the top block also has to get slimmer

Amazing job on those.

Hi all! I'm new here and just landed my first pair of Iron Hearts: the 301s. Like many other hapless fledgling wearers, I think I need some sizing help.
I'm tall and slim, 6'2 with a 32 waist (I wear 32 in the slim Self Edge x Flat Head Jean); I got the 301s in a 32 and the waist is just perfect right now. I'm worried it will stretch out too much though and that I should be wearing a size down. Rather than typing a wall of text I thought I'd just try to show a pic and see what you experienced people think. Sorry for the crappy quality, had to take them myself. You should be able to get the idea though. Should I be rocking the 31? I like a skinny jean but I don't want it painted on or looking ridiculous.

Spring Son of Light I went TTS on the 301s and they are my best fitting jeans. My size is 34.
Thanks Twin, I decided to stick with TTS. While I could have pulled off the next size down, I think the rise would have looked silly (I hate the slouchy thing).
BTW, how often have you washed your pair? Do you machine wash?

I washed them 5 or 6 times by hand.
