IH-301S

Forgive me if this has been talked about already, but,
This is a selvedge denim, is there a reason for the outer seam to be unfinished and over-locked? Pretty curious.
Thanks

thought the selvedge was now visible on these?

The 301S does not have selvedge, it was designed that way, partly because when it was originally conceived by Tom and Haraki it was destined to be sold to the Haraki's domestic customers (who on the whole are bikers and don't give a jot about selvedge, preferring cut and construction to be their driver), Haraki decided not to release it in Japan and Kiya decided to take the jean. . . .
The 301S was originally conceived as a non selvedge jean. The same silhouette could be achieved to show the selvedge line, but it would be a radical redesign. I originally thought it was due to the taper, but learnt otherswise when I was designing the Devils's Fit with Tom and Haraki….
Hope this helps a little . . .

So Kiya clearly wanted it to be redesigned, are they a better jean because of it? I just got them yesterday at self edge LA, and my pair is made without the finished edge.

Finally picked up a pair and have some IH back in the rotation. Really great fit. If I have the chance and the lighting is decent I'll get some pics up later today. Admittedly it is quite strange going from the unssnforized denim of the sexi23 to the soft 21oz IH denim. Forgot how much these feel like wearing sweat pants.

Well…
If anyone interested message me, I have a practically new size 31 ih-301s I'm putting up for sale. Cold soaked 10 minutes dried and worn for 4 hours. The crotch is bunching up weird and I can't deal with it.
-
Yeah man it got under my skin quick. Couldn't deal with it, it's a very strange cut in they area everything else was perfect; in fact, I didn't really notice it until I had been wearing them a few hours and the creasing set a bit and then it made me bonkers.

I am contemplating this pair:

OR
The 555-02
Similar fits from what I can tell, right?

Thanks Giles. I may be leaning towards the 555's… don't like the idea of crotch "bunching" that has been pointed out by a few members for the 301's.

I have both the 301's (old version) and the 555-01's in a size 36 and have never had any crotch bunching issues. I like the 555-01's a little better because they are tighter on the sides of the upper block (hips) and have a slightly longer rise. In general both are comfortable for me.
-
I just got a pair of the 301s and they are so comfortable compared to the "Devils fit". I can now access my pockets without pain and the heavier fabric really is softer. I can't wait to break them in and get some sick fades. I know the 666 is Giles fave but I have to say I'm really into these 301's

If my 301s had a higher back rise, by just an inch or two, I would be in jean heaven! They are great in any case. Enjoy.
You should try the the 555-01, I believe the rise is a little longer than the 301's.
