Rivet and Hide

Last week Atsu Tagaya, owner and designer of Stevenson Overall Co visited us at the store. He had with him a well used pair of his own jeans: 727 La Jolla. This 14 oz. denim is custom woven by the Kuroki Mill in Okayama Japan. It is a slubby fabric with subtle a greencast undertone. The jeans have been single needle stitched which is incredible when you see how precise the constructional stitching is. You can see how the leather backed iron fly buttons create their own unique fade.

Iron Heart has taken 17 oz. Japanese indigo selvedge shirt/jacket with side pockets and coated it in a black sulphur dye. This process gives the denim deep blue and black tones with hints of purple and reds. The overdye eventually wears out. The beauty of the process is the unique fading evolution the garment goes through by wearing and washing. It gives the fabric a wonderful patina.

Along with a restock of the Wild Child tan wallets we now carry the FH70 produced by the highly skilled Stockburg craftsmen; the leather goods wing of The Flat Head. The leather is a veg-tanned cowhide which has been heavily oiled. The mid-sized wallet has been entirely handsewn. It comes with a sterling silver wallet rein ring and features yellow pigskin lining.
We have introduced leather bracelets with silver clips. The Cool Western Bandana by The Flat Head and Real Japan Blues celebrates their entire raison d'etre.

+2 (3?), I spent a happy hour on Tuesday trying stuff on and chatting to Jake, eventually settled on a Mister Freedom Stanley Tee and a copy of Mens File/Clutch. Drooled over the bike in the window and the Flat Head leather jacket next to it, but think I'll be back for a pair of the Boondockers which were much, much nicer in the flesh than I expected!

Our first collaboration with Pure Blue Japan combines the ever popular slim tapered fit with a substantial 24 oz. version of the X011 jean with a grey weft and left hand twill weave. The indigo dyeing processes of PBJ are a closely guarded secret but we can guarantee both an exceptionally slubby deep indigo fabric and a pair of faded jeans over time that are truly remarkable.
This jean is limited in numbers and we have seen huge interest. We are making it available by pre-order and expect delivery in late September.

Calling all Londoners! Our dear Rivet & Hide pals - Danny, Junior and Jake - are kindly hosting an Iron Heart get-together on Friday 11th September, 6pm-9pm.
We'll be bringing the Iron Heart/Yamaha "Yard Built" XJR1300 bike that has been lovingly customised by Haraki-san, and which will then have a new home in Rivet & Hide's window for a few weeks.
Haraki-san, Sarina and Jiro from IH Japan will be there, along with the full team from IH UK.
