I realize I've gone a bit too far with my Wings collection, having 5 pair now. They're just such a great buy. I love the process of breaking in a new pair, and enjoy them softening up and forming to my feet like a custom piece molded just for my body. One peculiarity though, is a tough spot I've run into with every pair I've broken in. The inside edge of the left big toe. I'm not sure if its a manufacturing thing or a my-foot-thing, but at a certain stage of break-in, it always feels like there's an extra dense bit of cork under there that just refuses to mash down and compress like the rest. It's always the final hurdle before they reach perfection. Long after a pair has broken in, this one spot hangs up for months until it smashes out.
Anybody else experienced anything that feels like an inconsistent compression of the cork/leather footbed before reaching full break-in?

@WhiskeySandwich this is a rather interesting consistency. One thing I always seem to have to deal with with Red Wings is a callous build up between my pinky and next toe in. It causes discomfort for sure. Then I apply a Dr. Sholl’s callous pad remover thingy. Takes a few days but the callous falls off and then the boots feel great after that. Happens like every single time.
None of my higher end boots have ever done that to me though. I do feel my lofgrens, vibergs and wescos are a touch roomier in the toe box…so that seems to do the trick.

@Mizmazzle that’s a stumper too, especially if you have ample room. My wings alway have plenty of space cuz I have a slightly low volume foot for d width. It’s probably just the way I walk or something. Lol

Can anyone advise in sizing for pecos? Found some 8159 online in 10E. My Iron Rangers and Beckmans are 9.5d and fit good, bit snug but can still wear them longer periods. Since the Pecos should be more narrow, could the 10E fit or maybe still too small?

anybody in the US recently get a repair done at the RW factory? Just curious what their current turnaround is. Figured it'd be a while...
-
Just got my 1907 back from a resole at red wing. Took exactly the full month of August from the day I dropped off at my local RW store. Had them swap the storm welt for a regular flat welt and I love it! Got rid of that extra bulk.

@WhiskeySandwich
Look great bud , my favourite Pair of RW are the 1907
Don’t know why I’ve got 3 pairs
My oldest pair are battered need a re- sole and conditioning, my second pair are my favourite still the natural leather by far the best and got a new pair in a box lol -
@Jcaz6996 love em, especially with this sole. The copper leather rocks, and the 45 last fits me great with no insole. Let’s see yours!
-
@WhiskeySandwich if you don’t mind me asking, whats a resole like that from RW run?
-
@WhiskeySandwich my 1907s are about due for a resold too. Yours look awesome though so it gave me some hope haha.

@Denimhead-0 their “premium” repair is 150usd, and includes shipping if you drop at a RW store. That could potentially include the sole, the welt, minor stitching repair, and eyelet/speed hook swap. They also condition the leather, install new laces, and give you a free can of mink oil. Kinda pricey, but I really wanted the slimmer welt in my most worn pair.

@WhiskeySandwich not bad. Love em
