@Tago-Mago more blue crabs out that way.
His *current state of residence, New Mexico, has some of my favorite regional cuisine in the States, especially in the north of the state. Simple and delicious. Stacked blue corn adobada enchiladas and Hatch chile stew changed my life.

@mclaincausey he moved back to Maryland...

Oh yeah missed that! The mountain west forum contingency lost a good ‘un b

Speaking of Maryland and blue crabs, this may be an unpopular opinion: Chesapeake blue crabs is the #1 national seafood dish, and Old Bay is a better condiment that ketchup.
-
Marylanders are delusional regarding Old Bay and crabs are a social affliction.

Unpopular opinion: eating blue crabs sucks. Sorry @WhiskeySandwich
It's the messiest food ever, and the juice isn't worth the squeeze. If I'm working for 30 minutes to get two tiny bites of food, I'm not having fun. I'm with @steelworker on this one. Just get a lobster and move on with your life.

I grew up in the Deep South where blue crab is also revered. But stepping outside of prejudices, it is way down the list of shellfish. That’s why Atlantic coast people have to put Old Bay on it and southerners Tony Chachere’s. It’s just not that flavorful on its own and needs help. And yes it’s a pain in the ass to eat.
My (incomplete) shellfish hierarchy is something like:
Stone crab claws: the mustard sauce is great but you don’t need it or anything else for them to be delicious
King crab: excellent naked but drawn butter is welcome
Snow crab
Oysters
Dungeness crab
Lobster
Langostines
Crawfish
Shrimp
Blue crabIt’s not especially helpful to think of a hotdog or for that matter a burger as a sandwich when there is a specific term for it but sure, technically call it a sandwich if you must.

@mclaincausey My incomplete shellfish hierarchy is:
Fried whole belly Ipswich clams (IYKYK)
Oysters, raw only. No condiments
Scallops
Uni
Littleneck clams
Maine Lobster, hard pass on Caribbean lobster.
ShrimpWith the exception of shrimp, I don't like my seafood from warm waters. I don't eat east coast oysters harvested south of Rhode Island, and I don't eat lobster unless its's Maine lobster.

@Tago-Mago beat me to it.

Oh yeah scallops would be way up there. I like clams and mussels too
Agreed on lobster and I mostly do PNW loogies
