Ahhh look what we get to look forward to… Lovely VEB!

I'll throw them on the scale this evening and see if that was close or an exaggeration
No rush, but am curious. What you feel is more important than the actual weight difference, should be interesting to see the results tho.

Thanks tatmantall, Chiba and mclaincausey!! I've been collecting Engineer Boots for over 22 1/2 years now and worked with pretty much every leather out there in my leather work and can say with complete confidence that these (and my RC's, of course) are my favorites of any pair I've owned. John Lofgren's contribution to the Engineer Boot world has definitely upped the ante.
-
I'm still planning on weighing them, I had to pick my kid up from daycare cause he was sick yesterday and didnt get into work where my wescos are sitting right now. Ill have the results up this evening or tomorrow snowman.

i think lofgren boots are great! construction and design wise but why the fuck cxl leather? and why the fuck the price?
thats it cxl leathers are crap. its pure crap ask brett yourself.I would honestly be interested to hear the information that warrants your opinion now that we have VEB's insight from his experiences not only with boots but also in working with leather. I understand you don't like CXL, but i haven't ever really heard any supporting details of this opinion in the several lofgren threads where I've seen you post this across the web. Would you care to share how you came to this conclusion?

the chippewa by real mccoys for example is made from horween cxl too, most of if not all of the vibergs are made out of horween including the cxl, the butts and the shells. I do not get the point why Brett Viberg for example should think cxl from one of the oldest tanneries is crxx.

This was my same thinking… It seems cxl is used universally. Furthermore I had noticed Ed expressed interest in the viberg x flathead collab recently posted in the viberg thread, and that boot is made out of the same cxl that lofgren sourced for his boot.

Another exchange here, this one with ad hominem attacks.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. On the whole, people seem to be a little more adult on this forum than some others. I don't personally give a flying fuck what people say/do on other forums. Whilst I will not moderate against it, I would rather people did not cite examples of peoples behaviour on other forums, as evidence of grand transgression.

Only one opinion matters in regards to personal style.

Hmmmmm, I love CXL, respect others opinion, but don't really care at the end as it doesn't change my view. My White's in CXL are thick, soft, and breaking in beautifully. I can see for myself that the leather is unique and imo far superior than any other boots I own - red wings and fryes at the moment. Having said that, if I were using my boots to work construction or logging or fire-fighting etc. I would make a different choice.
On another note i was reading the thread Chiba referenced above and came across this…
Kashiwa: "If anyone is interested in Lofgren Engineers in size 13, John as agreed to do a size 13 last, if he can get at least 3 orders."
Does anyone know how to contact John? I have sent several eMails to info@speedway and I never get any response.

He told me the same thing, 3 or more. He has a hotmail account I will try to dig that up. Also on Facebook.

I really love the blue badlassi.
