@Mizmazzle How is the thinsulate working for you? Warm, hot, just right?
-
@goosehd it got up to 80° in town and near 70° in the mountains where I was hiking. The sun was blazing!! Around these parts that can bump the “feels like” temp up another 15-20°…so while it wasn’t peak summer conditions, it was quite warm.
I thought the Thinsulate was still in the comfort zone. I did roughly 7 miles of hiking yesterday in a mix of exposed hot dirt and shaded snow. Probably too soon to tell what a true summer day will be like, but so far I’d say they are looking promising.
Last summer we did a 50 mile trek over 5 nights into the Wind River Range…that’s what I’m breaking these in for now and will be the real test come July.

@Mizmazzle Are you wearing a moisture wicking sock (wool or other combo)? Feet get warm and sweat very much? At 70-80 my feet would be getting pretty warm.

@Daniel-San Such great engineers! I have the Attractions x S&S Lot 444 which has the brass hardware, Vibram 705 half sole and a collab in-sole. I found mine unworn at a consignment shop for 1/3 the retail price. They have filled the engineer boot void until I can pull the trigger on my grailed pair of Role Club engineers.
-
@Luijim78 How do the Lot. 444 compare to the Role Club's in your opinion?
-
@mvttryvn apart from the price and waiting times, they are both wonderful, first of all the leather is very different, the vegetable tanned one, lot.444 are much more rigid and more difficult to break (even if they are slippers compared to the Wesco Mr.Lou of Black Maryam ), are much shinier and smoother to the touch, in Role Club in Horween CXL they are comfortable from day one, very very easy to patinate (the first brown and tea shades appear after a week or ten days of normal use ). The roles are slightly smaller. They are both considered high end and the finishes are very refined, I prefer the Role perhaps because I wanted them so much but they are both very high end boots. Forgive the horrible and repetitive photos, I just realized that I posted them a few days ago) I'm getting older, sorry )

@Luijim78 thanks for the reply! I have followed Brian's work for a long time and lusted over both his Engineers and Underdog's. I absolutely love my Lot. 444's and have really enjoyed breaking them in and seeing the tea core come through, they are definitely an unforgiving leather haha. Eventually I would like to head down to L.A. to get sized and order up some natural veg tan Role Club engineers, but that won't be anytime soon, so for now I am going to enjoy watching the Attractions pair come into their own.
-
Role Club is hard to beat. I am set on engineers but his are my favorite. I have some oxfords of his that are great.
-
ordered the Biltbucks 444 in brown
as I already have the Lofgren engineers in black shinki , I decided to go for the brown ones first.
love the brown horse butt leather -
These were my wedding shoes and they're my only pair of no-hiking boots. The Wolverine 1k Mile Boots don't seem to get much love online but I like them quite a lot.
-
@Daniel-San excellent choice, they are really wonderful compliments
-
@Luijim78
hope the fit is working for me , but normally they should be ok.
keep you updated, guess they arrive by end of the week -
One of those days 🥱
