IHSH-85- The Johnny Cash Too - Superblack 12oz Selvedge Denim Western Shirt
-
Any expected restocked soon?
-
I can't seem to decide wether to get the western or work shirt. Pretty sure I will need a large in either since there will be some shrinkage. I learned from the 62 not to go TTS when there is room for shrinking.

You may want to consider an XL. Look at the measurements. Even though IH says they build them a little big to account for shrink they actually run a little smaller than some of the other IH large sized shirts. I have the western cut in large and it's just big enough. An XL would have been ideal, even though I wear a large in every other model of IH shirt I own.

Based on my experience, I think this would depend on how you want to use it. As stated earlier it's a heavy duty shirt and imo works well for layering over the top of another shirt if that's what you want. If you're more interested in a slimmer fit on its own, or over a t-shirt then I would consider TTS. I documented the shrinkage I got from a XXL earlier in this thread (I sized up one because of shrinkage, and because it was my 1st IHSH and I didn't know better). While it was a decent amount of shrinkage, it wasn't a whole size down. The shirt as it is now is still definitely bigger than my XL 64 for example. I've used it a lot this winter so it may well have stretched out a bit, but I wear it over a tee plus henley, or a tee plus shirt all the time. If I wanted to use it as a regular fitted shirt I would have gone TTS.

I agree with nephs observations. Go TTS if you just plan on wearing a tshirt underneath.

This shirt and the indigo 33 are at the top of my list. Fortunately, i seem to wear the same size in shirts as Giles which makes things easy.

Restock on XL?

I reckon a restock is inbound any day. However, I'm totally torn over if I'll ever be able to fit this beauty properly. I've got an IHSH-33 in XL, it's been washed and worn a'plenty and the current measurement is 23.5" pit to pit. This is quite snug for me, all other areas of the shirt is fine.
The IHSH-85 in XXL is 23.6" in pit to pit before shrinkage. I'm thinking that after a soak the pit to pit measurement will become dangerously close to being uncomfortable for me to wear. That means I should go for a XXXL (24.6" pit to pit), but seeing as I'm not a tall person (178cm) I'm afraid that the rest of the shirt will make me look like I've wrapped myself around a black tent…
Giles, just curious: why is it a few select Iron Heart garments aren't soaked beforehand to get the final shrinkage out? I understand with raw denim, but why not for Super Black? The rider's jacket in Super Black seems to not shrink?
If all else fails, I'll skip the IHSH-85 and get the charcoal flannel that'll hit us later this year.
...or maybe I'll get both. ::)

Go with the xxl and if it's too small I'll trade you for my xxxl (washed once).
-
I do not know when next restock is.
Re: Soaking. If we are concerned about how the fabric will behave (19L is a great example), we will soak. If we believe the fabric to be stable, then whether we soak or not depends on which side of the bed we get out on the day we conceive the product.

Crap, I just realised I never replied to your generous offer! I'm still a bit torn about sizes (not that anything is in stock at the moment), but if I do go the XXL route I will most certainly let you know how it fits!

@den213:
How come this Super-Black shirt has a selvage detail and the 666SB / 9634Z don't? Sorry if it was already asked…
Totally different denim
IHSH-85 = 12oz
666SB = 21oz SuperBlack
9634Z = 21oz SuperBlack -
Well, maybe the Boss did not care if the standard SB denim is cellbitch or not. I have the 9526V and the non-selvedge SB is nothing to feck with.

When I started working with Haraki almost 10 years or so ago, selvedge was not that important to him. He had designed some denims for the biker market in Japan, and as long as the denim performed the function it was required to do, he did not care less (nor did most of his customers) whether it was selvedge or not. One of the 3 denims he sold at the time was projectile loom woven 21oz superblack.
As we worked together more, and I opened up the western market, the issue of selvedge became more and more important, because that is what the majority of customers prefer. So, if we can make a fabric that is good enough for our needs on a shuttle (therefore selvedge) loom, we will.
Yes, we can make the 12oz superblack denim on a shuttle loom, so we do. We can't make the 12oz UHF on a shuttle loom, so we don't.
