IHAL-01 - Horsehide Cafe Racer with Collar
-
Nice jacket there Giles.
If you don't want the collar then you could just order the standard Alexander Leathers Cafe Racer.
And I'm sure Giles could get you one if you asked him nicely.

I sure can but I actually thought that the additional 400$ (sure, we all no thats nothing. 1 pair of jeans less or more, who cares?) for this jacket here compared to the non-IH-version might be enough to ask for a slight deviation. there have been times where nearly everything was custom and the jacket was 800$.

this insists I haven´t asked friendly? i got lucky then. there were plenty of other things - way more unfriendly - i´ve thought about when i saw this jacket being destroyed with that collar
a cafe racer has no collar, sorry.

There never has been a time, when I have done a collaboration leather jacket that cost USD800. And the reason that the collab costs more* is that it has a heap of stuff that is non-standard, including the sourcing and supply of the zippers and the Ventile
And yes, once upon a time I did a load of customisation on leather jackets, but I caught so many colds because, for example, I'd do one without a collar and if it did not fit perfectly, I would take it back into stock. Then I'd have a non standard item that was difficult to sell, so we'd have to move it on at a loss.
Yes, you did ask nicely and Graeme obviously had not read my answer, but the simple fact is offering infinite flexibility is a recipe for making you guys happy and me a loss. I'm not in the business of making bespoke jackets, it took me a long time to realise that, but I have seen the light, so I've stopped. There are a load of leather jacket options out there , so if you don't like what we offer, then I'm not losing sleep worrying about you not being able to get a jacket. Same as I'm not losing sleep if you want 12oz denim jeans. There is some stuff we do, there is some stuff we don't.
Haraki and I prefer it with a collar, so I guess "destroyed" is in the eye of the beholder. And we call it a "cafe racer with a collar", so it's not like we're trying to trick anyone.
- BTW, the "standard" Alexander cafe racer in FQHH is closer to $1,000 not $800 and on top of that you have to pay for shipping. And it does not come with Ventile over moleskin, a collar, or 2 internal pockets or our super-duper heavy duty zippers.

All is well G-San. No harm done.
my 2 cents worth. Everyone here knows how to and how much it will costs ordering to those lovely staffs at AL. This is just another offering through Iron Heart. Customized zippers, specs (collars), tags and what not. None of us are impliying that you're trying to trick anyone, and I believe including Simon himself. If so he wouldn't asked to get one without the collar option. Using 'cafe racer' in the description is nothing but respecting the original design from which the jacket is based on. So all in all it's all good.
Maybe just a bit of miss communication along the way.
Cheers.

I have no images of the inside and the jacket and I no longer have it here. Sorry.
Moleskin for heft and warmth, ventile over the top of it for smoothness and possibly some waterproofing if there is any water ingress through the FQHH, which there should not be as FQHH is effectively waterproof anyway.

I love the jacket, including the collar, for both functional and stylistic reasons. As a non-rider, collarless cafe racers are a bit too "motocycley" for me. Would sort of feel like a poseur wearing one. The collar makes this a mainstream jacket to me.

Spot on McLain. I have a belstaff one and it never feels right being collarless unless I throw a hoodie over the top! Love the Ih one.

Hi, this might be too long ago, but @Giles do you know if this jacket was tea-core tanned? (i.e. does the black color (shed) its outer layer to reveal the brown patina underneath?
I tried to look at the archived listing but idk if we use "tea core" as a marketing term 10 years ago.https://web.archive.org/web/20140616103132/http://www.ironheart.co.uk/jackets/ihal-01.html
