IHM-09 - 2014 Whipcord "N1" Deck Jacket - Olive & Black
-
The fit looks great! How does it feel? Do you have room to layer?
You are a little bigger than me (6' 185-190) and I decided to go for an XL, which should arrive today. I briefly had ownership of a Freewheeler's N-1 in size Large / 42 and it had similar chest / shoulder measurements as the large IH. I had to return it because I couldn't comfortably wear it with anything other than a T-shirt.

Gives it a bunch of character.
Great job.

Quoise - Glad the XL fits! I can fit the ultra heavy flannel and long sleeve tee under the large for a comfortable, but snug fit. XL for you in Chicago is a sound choice.
Thanks everyone for the fit comments. Re: waxing. I hate to use the phase 'hand rubbing' with this crowd…but that's all I've done so far with the wax bar. I've got more wax ordered now. When I apply that batch I'll use some hair dryer action to work it in a bit. I'll be sure to post after pics.

Looks great spork, perfect fit.

How would you guys compare this jacket to a down one, as far as warmth goes?
thanks!
-
Without having worn this particular coat, I can generally say that alpaca is feckin warm. But nothing short of self-immolation compares to high loft down for ultimate warmth.
-
Thanks. Yeah, I'm thinking of a down jacket for winter since I already have an Aero with alpaca lining.

I wore a similar deck jacket to IH today in sub zero temp with a tee and an IHSH-30 and was fine.
If you want crazy warm and don't care about fashion, Feathered Friends of Seattle makes serious expedition grade gear. Canada Goose and Moncler make more fashionable offerings. The Flat Head has a pretty sweet down coat too.

Cheers. Yeah, I'm looking at the Selkirk from Canada Goose. I have a lot of Arc'teryx gear, but am looking for something a bit different. Also looked at Western Mountaineering but I'm looking for more of a casual piece that can be versatile. I do love this N1 though.
