Thanks @Chesson. Impatience got the best of me though and I picked up a pair from city workshop a couple of weeks ago.

Hey guys (and gals)…I have narrowed down my choices to the 666 or the 777 in 21oz. I am leaning toward the 777 and have a question for the experts about sizing. My true waist measures a bit under 35" on the tape measure (34.75"). Should I focus on the tag size 34 (which shows a 34.9" waist measurement) and risk some stretch or should I size down to a tag size 33 (which shows a 33.5" actual measurement) and rely on 1"-1.5" of stretch in the waist, which, I understand, is fairly typical with the 21oz denim? I am leaning toward the 34 because the 777 is a slimmer fit overall and the extra room may result in a better fit. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

@AdamJ @neph93 @Chesson @AdamC @GilesI would definitely go for the tag size 34 possibly even the tag size 35 depending on your build and other measurements. One thing to remember on the 777 is the low rise. I would definitely err on the side of sizing up on this cut if in doubt. I have.a 34.5" true waist and I am usually a 34 or 35 if available in the 777 cut. That low rise can be uncomfortable when sitting if the waist is too tight. My most comfortable pair of 777's have actually stretched out to a 36" waist (21oz overdye).

I would suggest ignoring your "true" waist size. A person's true waist is typically 2 or 3 inches above the waistband of a pair of modern trousers. So measuring that and trying to determine what tagsize to buy is like comparing chalk with cheese
Please do what we suggest in the sizing video, there is a link to it from every product page. Measure and compare, and then ask the question to shop@ironheart.co.,uk if you still need help. Even if you don't ask, but still place an order, the guys will reach out to you anyway.

Giles is absolutely right, true waist is a fairly meaningless metric when fitting jeans. As @manufc10 points out the low rise doesn’t sit at true waist, and this amongst other things renders the true waist measurement pointless. If you have jeans with a lower rise that fit well then measure them.

Perhaps I was using the incorrect terminology…when I was referring to my "true waist" size, I meant that I took a tape measure and measured my waist where I am guessing the 777 would sit on my body, which is 34.75"
I then tried to pick the jeans with a waist size that matches that as closely as possible on the chart. Am I misunderstanding what a "true waist" measurement is?
The cut on these is a bit different, but I did compare those measurements to my favorite pair of jeans and I am in the ballpark. I just didn't know how much stretch to accommodate for:)

Well firstly, «true waist» as tailors use it is the slimmest part of the torso seen from the front, with the tape running just under the navel.
Secondly, actual body metrics don’t necassarily correspond to the dimensions of clothing. For example, you don’t know how the size of the rise will affect the fit of the waist.
The tried and tested method is to measure worn jeans you already own, that fit as you like, then factor in stretch and shrinkage when choosing the right IH tag size for you.

I’m sure you are. The 21oz will stretch at least an inch in the waist and 0.3-0.5” in the thigh.

I really appreciate all your help! OK…one final question that is very specific just to boil my question down to its essence. The 666 appears to be a better fit for me when I consider the rise measurement. My favorite pair of selvage denim fits exactly the way I like after 5-8 wears. The waist measurement on those is 17.25" across, or 34.5" circumference.
On the 666, if I choose tag size 34 the measurement chart shows 34.5" for the waist. However, if I buy a new pair of 666 21oz at the 34.5" waist right out of the package, then won't they be slightly too large after a few wears when we account for the stretch? All the other dimensions are spot on with my favorite pair of jeans, including the rise, thigh, knee and hem. Thanks!

A 34.5” pair will likely end up at least 35.5”. So a belt would likely be of help.

About to give these their first wash. About 10.5 months of wear, but mostly around the office. Was trying to see how long I could go, but it’s time! LOL
Comparing with an unworn pair of 634S-A that I’ve been holding off wearing. About time to break those in too!

Random Question I know but does anyone else get pulled aside at the airport in security because their 21oz denim is to so thick? Every time they think I have something hidden and my jeans are empty.

I'm going to order a pair of these and would like to get them hemmed right away. I am pretty confident I will like the fit. I have the 777 in the 14 oz indigo denim and I got about a half inch of shrink in the inseam after a few machine washes. Always hang dried. Can I expect about the same amount with the 21 oz denim?

Mine had shrinkage right around there if I remember correctly. Maybe a bit less than 1/2”
