I was inspied to create this thread by Just_KC's signature:
Caligula : Oderint Dum Metuant : Let Them Hate So Long As They Fear.
I think about the following almost every day, I guess because it just makes me think (and I paraphrase because I can't find the exact words):
Stalin: What is the point of The Fear, if the innocent are not afraid…...

i enjoy reading quotes but don't often use them, but there are a few that pop in meetings and the like:
Discretion in speech is more than eloquence - Sir Francis Bacon . . . when I need to ask someone to stop talking
78.4% of all statistics are made up - anon . . . when I can't be bothered with over-analysis
He should be taken out and shot with a ball of his own shite - Geo . . . when someone really pisses me off
But i much prefer no quotes and friendly meetings

"Family isn't whose blood you carry. Its who you love and who loves you." -Jackie Chan

I don't mean to directly refute Beatle's quote, but I was recently confronted with some of Gandhi's lesser known words:
'He who cannot protect himself or his nearest or dearest or their honor by non-violently facing death may and ought to do so by violently dealing with the oppressor. He who can do neither of the two is a burden.'
'It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of non-violence to cover impotence. Violence is any day preferable to impotence. There is hope for a violent man to become nonviolent. There is no such hope for the impotent.'
'If the capacity for non-violent self-defense is lacking, there need be no hesitation in using violent means.'
Some other favorites of mine:
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. -Anonymous
'When you come to a fork in the road, take it!' -Yogi Berra
'You have no oath registered in heaven to destroy the government, while I shall have the most solemn one to "preserve, protect, and defend it."
I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field and patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.' - Abe Lincoln's 1st Inagural
'Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group
for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar.' -Drew Carey -
Funny this comes up because my pastor said one of my favorite quotes yesterday and I almost spit out my coffee.
As he quoted it "By the great prophet and poet (pause) Mike Tyson, "Everyone has a plan, 'till they get punched in the mouth…"
And another of my favorites came from one of my past jiu jitsu coaches. Ironicly I was going through a TON of bad times with my now fiancee and he has no idea how much this hit home when he said it to me.
"What hurts more, physical pain or mental pain? What hurts more, getting punched in the face or getting your heart broken...?
Great thread G Dogg.

Aren't you?
C'mon, Doug, be honest…
My dad used to say the same thing to us all the time, too, only he randomly switched between horseshoes, hand grenades, flamethrowers and nuclear weapons. I think he was going for variety.
