Looking less scrubby with the IH bling @Chap [emoji14] you a surgeon? I thought you were a chef this whole time …
No cooking is just a hobby … I am a dentist.
Plan to come to the 10yr anniversary?
My wife would LOVE to chat you up… she's a dental hygienist.

This has been the snowiest February on record here in Minnesnowta, with more on the way tonight. This has led to us discovering that we need a bit more attic insulation. Damn ice dams! Raking the roof in an attempt at damage limitation today.

Ooh shit. How many inches thick is the layer you have now? @nurunuru
For the snow, I'd guess maybe a foot to a foot-and-a-half? We've had over 30" fall so far just this month.
With regards to the damn ice dam… it looks to be a good six+ inches high in spots ??? No signs of any leakage inside the house yet, though. Fingers are very much crossed on that one!

Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant how thick is the layer of insulation? I was discussing roof construction in the USA vs. Norway with @steelworker a while back. Insulation to stop heat loss will help with the icing but the best solution is to have an effective "cold air" layer between the top (outward) layer of roofing and an under-roof. The building regs in Norway specify a 2" minimum. You can clearly see which houses have it and which don't around my way… Ed seemed to think that was unusual in the States.

Oh, gotcha. If memory serves we have maybe a foot-and-a-half or so of blown-in insulation up in the attic. Something like that. But I'm guessing there are some spots which are decidedly lacking… hence the heat problem up on the roof. I'll need to get up there in the spring and try and figure it out. We've only been in this house a little over two years now, so we're still figuring out the issues as they come along!
We've also just had seemingly the perfect conditions for ice dam formation this year. Lots of snow and some extreme temperature fluctuations. Didn't have any major issues the two winters before this.
