Picked these up during the sale.
My first 888 first 21oz and first OD bottoms!I could have sized down to 35 but they were out of stock. I think I will be happy with these tho…

Just got my delivery, really liking the OD which I'd never seen in person before. Question for you guys on the fit. I can button them easily - no wrestling with top button - but they're a little snug on the hips which is good. And they're a little uncomfortable sitting down (manageable but wouldn't like that feeling to last very long).
That said, I'm wondering if I should consider sizing down from a 30 to a 29. The thighs on the 30s are about as snug as I'd like given that they probably won't stretch a huge amount.
Would appreciate some guidance because doing an exchange would require incurring some additional shipping costs with an uncertain outcome. My best guess is that thighs wouldn't work and, even if they did, I'd need to keep the top button unbottoned for a little while.

Somewhere else I'd read advice about getting them really snug because they stretch. These are my first IHs but other raws that weren't quite as snug in the waist stretched a ton and are now too big (Japan Blue, 3sixteen, N&F, etc.).
But yeah, I hear you, probably will stay put. I've been running a lot lately and probably can't keep that up indefinitely. Easier to do while working from home…

As a father of a daughter who also mocks my selfies, I feel you
That fit looks stellar. They'll loosen up fast where pressure is applied (i.e. the waist, the thigh) up until a point (fabric limit or application limit). I took a pair of 888S-SB from 30.5 to 32.5 but they won't go farther Dang pants got me cutting calories

Selfies are bad enough but selfies of new clothes that get posted to get other people's (strangers, no less!) opinions were a bridge too far.
I sure hope they don't stretch too much. Almost all of my jeans are too big in the waist which is why I've been shopping while cooped up at home.
@neph93 do these look snug enough per you advice? Think you were the guru who suggested that in the random question thread.

I think they look great now and they do look snug without looking tight. "Snug enough" is a value judgment however, and very much based on you, how they feel and your experience of fit. It is therefore impossible for me to judge. From your description and from the visuals I'd say you are good to go. A size down would quite probably be a challenge for you and may result in unwanted discomfort, and a heightened risk of blowout.
But be prepared for this pair to stretch meaningfully. The waist will loosen up considerably (1-2" depending on how they fit now), and the top block and thighs will also loosen noticeably.
If you look through this thread or do a forum search lot number you will notice people wear them in different ways and look great. If you feel like this pair will still make you happy a week or two down the line then commit to them, they'll still look great, just not like they do now.
EDIT: I just re-read your first post. Getting the top button done up is a good thing. Normally difficulties with that occurs because of the nature of the denim, not sizing issues. 21oz is not difficult like 25oz, and not being able to do up the top button because the waistband is too short would be too far in the wrong direction imho.
Tightness over the thigh and hips at the start sounds about right to be. It will dissipate with a few days wear. It should leave you with a contoured but comfortable fit.

Much obliged, especially given the inherently subjective nature of something like fit. I just find Japanese denim a little tough between sanforized, unsanforized, unsanforized but rinsed, etc. Really hard to know which combinations won't budge and which ones will stretch a lot. I guess I shouldn't be too concerned though - ill fitting jeans are what pushed me to go to my local shop Blue Owl in Seattle back in 2013 or 2014 which got me on the path. Never would've imagined I be reading forums and talking cut, color and fit with folks from around the world. Fun, fun hobby.

I love my pair. They get worn regularly but not as a main pair, just part of a rotation. I have about five or six jeans I wear regularly and they are one of them.
I also find the OD picks up and shows dirt and stains more than indigo denim, so they’ve been washed twice already. They will probably see more wear now as the temps rise as my XHS and UHR will have a rest throughout July and into August.
