IH-888S-21od - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - OD'd
-
When new and when sitting the waist band at the back sticks out a long way and then after a few wears the fabric adapts to the body and there isn’t that space. I was concerned when I first got them but needn’t have been. The 21oz denim takes on the shape of its wearer, and I wonder if the overdye might even increase this aspect of the fabric. Perhaps this is because it has seen higher temps than the non OD, so it has more room to stretch and give from when it is first worn.

I think you’re absolutely right on point one. As for point two, also yes. I think the brutal nature of the OD process makes the fabric even less resistant to pressure.

Deuce looks like you found a perfect fit. You happy with the hem? Your 1907’s are a good contrast in terms of colour and the chunkiness pairs better with a wider hem. Although I’ve seen suggestions on the forum that hemming slims the jeans from the knee to ankle, my experience is the opposite. That a wide cuff as you have here causes the fabric to taper from knee to ankle to fit underneath the folds. It’s not that the material stretches over the cuff and looks bigger, the cuff stays the same circumference and the fabric inside accommodates in an inward direction. I’ve had wide pairs that appeared tapered when thickly double cuffed, then once hemmed seemed much wider afterward. All that’s to say if you want to keep the shape you’ve achieved now I’d recommend against hemming. Will be interesting to hear your thoughts of the 888 from other cuts.

Nkwkfld - very happy with these and I agree, keeping the inseam length unchanged will at least give the illusion of them being narrower at the hem, or actually narrower than if I chop of 2”. Will try them for a bit before deciding on hemming or not.
I can say that the 888 when sized correctly are my best fitting IH denim. I have the 555, which I wear but the waist is not ideal (too loose, but can’t size down due to thigh), tried the 777 but too restrictive and I have a pair of 633 which I like, but the crotch is not the most comfortable. These 888 just hit the mark. I had tried them on in my usual 32” waist and the waist was tight but legs a tad looser than I like. I traded emails with IH team on buying a pair of No-lot but they discourage them for my waist size, so they found a pair of 888 in a sz. 31 that measured perfectly for my waist and gave me the slimmer leg I was after. Looking forward to beating these up a bit!

I'm curious about this. Can you elaborate? I'm a similar waist size to you. I think.

GardenState I gave them the measurements for my best fitting denim (16.5” across) and non of the No-Lot they had measured correctly.

Ah okay. I was thinking it might be the legs.

I actually JUST ordered a pair 5 mins before you posted. Went with a 32 with 31.5 waist and 12.25 thigh. Will need a little stretching but it'll work!
I'm trying to figure out my perfect hem length. For the longest, I was ordering them far too long at 34" inseam while I'm only 5'10". I finally got them hemmed to 32", which looks much cleaner but now I'm wondering if I should drop to 31". It can look a little too bunched up at the bottom with sneakers.
Is your inseam length just long enough so that the jeans touch the ground when barefoot, Reuben? Your inseam looks spot-on!
That a very good point made! Reading all these 2 years before but remained the same usefulness!

After another hot wash

Got these mid-March. They’re very much ready for their first wash now. Have seen a lot of playground duty, some garden work and quite a few bike trips at this point. So taken with these that I picked up a pair of 888s during the sale.
