IH-888S-21od - 21oz Selvedge Denim Medium/High Rise Tapered Cut Jeans - OD'd
-
I've never had a pair of IH stretch in the inseam — if anything they might lose a bit in the first wash, depending on the temp of the wash and whether the denim is sanforized and/or rinsed. You shouldn't get any in the OD, as that process should've already knocked any of that out.
BUT… depending on how much you hem them, you'll gain a little bit at the leg opening, as they get less tapered the farther up the leg you go. Something to keep in mind. Personally I'd love the 888 to be a little wider at the bottom, but that might not be your thing.
-
Yeah dude they’re not gonna get longer with stretch. This denim probably won’t shrink noticeably having been through the OD process, but you might lose an extra half inch through stacking/combs settling in
-
As stated, the inseam won’t stretch. The top block will, and that includes the rise but any difference that makes to the length of the inseam is negligible. The inseam from crotch to hem is the the important thing. And the crotch doesn’t hang much lower as the rise stretches.
One thing that makes a minor difference is the formation of honeycombs. It has been suggested you may lose as much as half an inch. Again, in my experience this is negligible.
Tl/Dr: there will be little to no change.
If you’re unsure, just wear them unhemmed for a few weeks. The top block will stretch, honeycombs will form, then get them hemmed.

I wonder if all the experts in this denim game felt the same trepidation I feel now? Haha. I sent them off to IH already to hem. Went with a 32” which sounds like could end up around a 31.5” once the honey combs set in. My girl thinks 31” would have looked best anyhow so sounds like we may be landing right in between where she likes and I like. What a compromise!!! Haha. I already contacted the boys at IH once to change the hem length so I’m gonna let it ride. Fingers crossed!!!

@Mizmazzle sure they’ll look great
I’m with Matt though, I don’t get anything hemmed anymore and just rock cuffs of varying sizes
-
I'm sorta the same way. I always wear my jeans cuffed, even if I have em hemmed — in fact I'd say the only reason I ever have them hemmed is just so the cuffs don't bulk up too much. If I have a really long pair in something like a 21oz, then more than a double cuff starts to look a bit bubbly.
-
This sounds like an interesting progression. I’ve never really liked cuffing my jeans. I’m pretty new to the raw/ selvedge/ heritage game. Got my first pair of raws from Tellason about a year ago come March. It’s been a pretty rapid expansion since then. Have a few IH pieces now and a few Tellason pieces. Got a selvedge denim jacket from Oni that I love. Guess the cuffing aspect hasn’t set in yet, however. I like a nice clean leg I suppose. I get my hemmed 888s back on Monday!!! Can’t wait to see how they fit!!! Hemmed the same length as my Telly’s ultimately. Pics to come for anyone who’s curious haha

Yeah those look great!! That how I like my pants to lie on my boots, minus the cuff. Mind if I ask what tag size those are and how wide the leg opening is?

Tag is 38 and they are a bit too big for me, but are too comfortable to get rid of them… Hahah. The width of the leg opening is roughly near the 21cm or 8 ‘ish inches. Thanks for the comment!!

Welp for the 888s are back from IH for the hem job! I’d say they nailed it!! First day out and the break in is going swimmingly!! Love the feel of this 21oz denim!! The hooks are sinking deeper in as the tentacles of the 888 take hold and the Iron Heart gains another loyal soldier in it’s denim clad army!!!

i love the versatility of this cut. managed to fit nicely with whatever the rest of my formal attire was.
fortunately - this is as formal as it gets for me
and yeah, this cut definitely works on slimmer build like mine, as well as for stronger physiques -
Morning folks! Hope you're all well.
I have just purchased my first pair of overdid Iron Hearts. I have bought the 888 in tag 36v waist. Now I take pretty much dead on a 36 so asked the guys at IHUK if they had a pair that measured less than the stated measurement of 35.7 as I was concerned that once the stretch had occurred they may be too loose. They kindly found a pair at 35.2" which I can just about do up. My first question is roughly how long with regular wear would it take to stretch these bad boys out an inch or so as they're not currently particularly comfortable and am I being daft by enduring temporary discomfort, should I just get a pair nearer my actual size and enjoy the extra room once the stretch has occurred. And potentially future proof a bit too as my waist only seems to be going one way atm!!Also has anybody attempted a taper adjustment to narrow the hem? The one problem I always have with IH jeans is I find the hems a little wide, even on my 555s. I'm guessing any such adjustment would mean the whole inseam being adjusted in which case you then run into the problem of matching the overdyed thread. I'm not so keen on contrasting thread on black(ish) jeans.
Sorry, long winded post, tia for any advice.

They will stretch an inch or more, quite quickly. One week of daily wear for example. Wearing a belt and not being active will retard the process. In other words hold steady, and in a week or two you should be fine.
People get IH jeans tapered. The usual suspects in the US do it by mail order. There are denim specialists in the UK and Australia too. The inseam will be picked to do the work and replicating OD’d polycotton can be tricky. However the specialists should have a choice of threads and find a match.
All that being said, I’ve seen many a pair of IH ruined by aftermarket tapering. The silhouette of your 888’s have been planned and designed from the waistband down. Fucking with it can create unwanted results.
