Thanks Reuben. I love this denim. You’ve got them so you know.
Looking forward to seeing your new 225 photos with these.
It is spectacular denim. I have say that I’ve been struggling a little to pair them with tops that I like. It’ll be easier when they’re worn but double indigo isn’t quite working yet and a lot of my other shirts don’t quite work. Partially why I copped the 225.

Nice @Matty123 I can tell you cross your left over your right much more than right over left, haha.

One would think so, but it actually happens from my car seat. I keep my left leg bent at the knee and up against the seat.it happens to all my jeans and it took me a little bit to figure it out myself. Thanks brither

Oh man. I shouldn’t have looked at this thread! Now my impatience for a restock in 34s is even stronger.

@Filthy:
@Crit_Obs 1000 % these. Especially if you like HEAVY. Don't get me wrong, the UHR is pretty great. But these are really on a whole other level of awesome. This denim has the same smooth/soft hand that the UHR has. But they feel substantially more heavy. By the numbers these are only supposed to be 2 oz heavier per yard. But they feel magnitudes heavier. Also the indigo is the deepest, darkest indigo I have never seen with an exponential potential for fading. These are going to have some incredible tate ochi and incredible electric blues. 1000% these.
But I think if you use PayPal you can get a free return. So why not buy both pairs and return whichever you don't like? I'd email them and make sure this is true for certain.
I’d be very surprised if the 888 doesn’t show up in the regular XHS down the road. It is a perfect cut for heavy denim. So unless the black dye is the dealmaker, you’ll see XHS in other cuts and I suspect the 888 too at some point. The UHR is pretty much done. All that was left of that denim has been made into jeans. So that tips the scales perhaps?
These are my two favourite IH denims. If i had to live without one I’d be hard pressed to choose. The XHS has an amazing weight and heft to it. The weave is thick and coarse and the fading is high contrast, and vertical. It’s a slow development but gives a dramatic result.
The UHR a very different beast from the XHS despite comparable weights. It is quite a light indigo to start of with, it is woven much more densely and has an even, almost silky hand. Hairy too. It fades quickly, quicker than any other IH denim. They are less contrasting than XHS but still quite dramatic. The UHR also loves water. The denim gets better and better with washing.
Hopefully that little run down gives you a better idea of the differing qualities of the receptive denims. With a sword over my head I’d probably be forced to choose the XHS but it really would be a close run thing.
Thanks a lot for your insights guys @neph93 & @Filthy and sorry for not thanking you earlier, have been fighting with a bout of depression and being busy over the last while.
In more positive news, I managed to secure a trainee position at a big 4 company, starting in June; they are not as stuffy as more traditional law offices and I’ve been led to believe jeans could be an acceptable attire on regular days when not meeting clients or some such. You can see where this is going… A new crisp pair will definitely be needed. The problem now is that I don’t know whether to go for the 888 or the 555 iteration of these, I have the 555-03 and I wear them most days despite the fit being off. I tried the 888 UHR on at a local store (I thought retailers didn’t have it but apparently some of them do) and it’s nice but for my physique & size not remarkably different from the 555, it’s the room in the knee that sets them apart. 777 in regular XHS could be an option but the front rise is too low.
Sorry for posting this general ramble here on this thread but wanted to thank the guys for their comparative analyzis re: xhsib vs. UHR.
-
I’d go with whichever one measures up best in terms of thigh/waist ratio. The 555 generally has a bigger waist compared to tagsize than the 888, and obviously a smaller thigh. Fit the waist first, then worry about the thigh.
Sorry to hear about your illness, but congratulations on the new opportunity. I wish you the best, both with the job and keeping The Black Dog at bay.
-
@Crit_Obs best wishes to you brother.
-
Thanks a ton for your wishes guys, highly appreciated.
Regarding the sizing… Did you pick the same size in xhsib & uhr? The measurements seem very similar for the same tag size, despite the latter being loomstate. If I kind of have the potential uhr size nailed down, would I be asking for trouble going down 1 size on the xhsib? The uhr I tried on was a snug-ish but not tight fit on the waist and I could soak and wash them with no fear.
Sizing questions are mundane, I know.
-
@Crit_Obs grab your favorite pair of jeans and measure the waist. Whatever you get subtract 1 inch from that and that is what your size is. Pretty much what neph said but remember the waist is going to stretch an inch and the jeans should be difficult to get on the first couple wears, and very difficult to button. My waist is still snug enough that I have to slightly exhale when I button mine up.
Use this to see how they measure, so you are measuring the same way.
-
@Crit_Obs I shouldn't have said size… I mean waist measurement. This is almost always different than the tagged size.

So hard to get the full range of color if the lighting ain't just right…
