IH-777S-21od - 21oz Selvedge Denim Super Slim Tapered Jeans - Overdyed Indigo
-
I have just picked up a pair of these wonderful jeans and have a question on hemming. I believe that the overdue process will take out all the shrink - do I need to give them a soak/wash prior to hemming, or is it fine to hem them off the bat?
I did not pre-soak or pre-wash mine before wearing, and they didn't seem to shrink (I measured) after a lukewarm hand-wash and a hang-dry.

@RoxRocks86 Rockin'. Love how the OG OD fades. It may be a tortoise, but it wins the race.
-
@nurunuru I completely agree. Also love how OD doesn’t fade with high contrast it’s a great denim to have in the mix.
@Oaktavia If you ever get the chance you should def consider adding a pair of OD’s to your arsenal. It’s a great denim to have and completely different from indigo, bb’s, ib’s. It really is just it’s own thing. Plus it just feels super soft and nice from the OD process

Yeah, the 21 oz od is really nice to have as a third (or fourth) pair in a rotation. The sulfur dye starts to come off pretty quickly and it gets a "lived in" look within 50 or so wears. So you can wear it, enjoy the super-soft fabric, and not have to put much thought into fading it.

Bow I'm second guessing the 21ozib and may go for this one…

@Oaktavia if these stay in continuous production you may be able to have your cake and eat it too with the ib’s

@Oaktavia , Giles mentioned that IH is going to phase out the fugitive sulfur dye used in the od jeans, due to cost increase and especially the environmental issue that it presents. He didn't give a timeframe for this (that I can remember), but if I were in the market for a pair of 21od jeans, I'd get them sooner rather than later.

@BlueBlood @RoxRocks86 I need to give this some thought…thanks for all info!!

These are the ones I’ve been wearing. They change colour blacks blues browns greens and purples over time and in different lighting conditions. I’m not too keen on black jeans but these are different they are soft from the beginning so no painful break in process and I enjoy wearing them. Love the brass buttons and the blue fibres coming through on the back pockets.
-
@Gammaman your pair of faded OD’s look phenomenal :o
-
I just love how the od denim looks at the beginning and once it's faded. I had bought a decent amount of denim just because of the way it _might_look in six months to two years. But the od just looks good all the way through. I ought really to wear my pair.
-
@Gammaman those look fantastic. Now I know what I have to look forward to on mine. These are one of my favorite pairs of jeans and I agree that they just look great all the way through and seem to constantly be slightly evolving before my eyes every time I wear mine. Such life to this fabric.
-
Thanks. Yeah they change colour with the lighting and look good with black or brown boots. Enjoy them.

But beware when washing. On their first 30° wash, inside out and whipped out as soon as cycle ended they came out with fold crease. Right down left leg as if I was still at school and my mum had ironed s crease in.
How can I get rid of this or are they ruined? -
That's a permanent fade now. You have some options besides leaving them like that. Could wash hot and they'll get more marbled and there'll be less contrast, and you could even bleach them to lighten them all over. Or go the other way and overdye them again. As they are I would not at all say they are ruined. They are totally unique, and look pretty cool to me. They're your pair so do what you want. I bleached my OD21oz to a light blue and am pleased with the results. Might overdye them someday black or some other colour just to see how they turn out.

Oof… happened to me with a pair of grey chinos. I agere with the above that bleaching, hot washing or wearing them like you hate them are all good options.
For future reference, soaking jeans with a shower head before washing is an excellent idea, also, taking out pre spin will not help if the machine is still on a high spin program during the wash (which I suspect is what happened here, as it did to me).
