We have a brand, unworn with tags size XXXL here that has one side panel that is in a slightly lighter weight hide that the reciprocal panel. It is 100% fine and would not have left Four Speed had they thought it an issue. It is though, noticeable to the touch, if not the eye. USD1250 - save yourself USD500 and high-five anything with a pulse.
PM me if you are interested…

@giles
Do you know, what is the weight of this jacket ? Is it 2.5oz ? Or heavier ? I know aero cxl starts at 3oz.
Also , what is the leather thickness in mm?I own aero cxl horsehide so I kind a know what to expect here but need little more information on the leather for sizing purposes.
Thanks

This leather is beautifuly thick and meaty but crazy soft!
No break in period for me, only to mold to my body.
I'm totally crazy about this jacket -
Exactly what Giles said
Sleeves are fine . Due to creasing factor , In Horsehide material you must needed .75 inch long compare to your actual sleeve length size . Learned this hard way

As with most IH gear, the sleeves are designed to be a bit long, especially compared to other Japanese brands. The idea it’s that when you sit on a motorcycle, the sleeves are not halfway up your arm.
Longer sleeves is one of the reasons I like the fit of IH so much. I’m not into the sugarcane look where the sleeves stop two inches above your wrist.

This is how my J-54 In brown fits me. Relaxed hand, cuffs extend to my knuckles. However, while wearing and moving, I keep the cuffs zipped snug at the wrist and it stays put really well.
Add the .75-1” creases and settling snd your fit will be glorious after a few weeks of consistent wear.

After a long search and, also, a nearly 2 year wait for a pre-order of a Fine Creek Leathers custom Leon to arrive at my home only to learn that the fitting is not for my body type, I've now come to strongly notice the leather jacket options offered by Iron Heart. Now surprised to realize that the leather is coming Himeji, just as was the leather from the FCL jacket. The difference being is that the leather is chrome tanned instead of veggie tanned. Its sounding as though people are generally praising the Chrome tanned leather for its softness and quality even though the tanning process is substantially less labor and time-intensive that brewing it with vegetable stock. lol Anything else that should be known to someone that hasn't yet handled a purely chrome tanned horsehide?
Also, really been looking more at the Self Edge version of this collar jacket as I appreciate the lack of zipper gusset located on the sides of the waist. Any other difference between this version sold on the IH site vs the SE version??? Slimmer arms sleeves?? I know the sizings are different. A size 42 there looks like an XXXL here.
What sometimes blows my mind with IH is that the chest sizes are at least an 1-1.5 inches larger than any other brand I may but but, given the significant taper, the clothing ends up fitting very well, providing me a very nice range of motion whilst also offering a flattering silhouette. But now I'm not certain with leather jackets so thought I might ask here. I generally fit pretty well in a size XXL for UHF workshirts, XXL in western denim, and generally XXXL in the 526LOD (though its a bit tight in the midsection). The pit-to-pit is usually 24 inches in these clothes with waist size of around 22.5. The collared leather jacket in a XXXL appears to match my sizing though perhaps I really should be getting something a bit tighter, even if its initial wears are uncomfortable, so that it stretches and forms to my person?
Also, Giles, do you still have that marked down collared jacket? Perhaps the panel with the lighter weight won't be so noticeable after its broken in with the rest of the jacket?
Boy, sorry. Think I really demand a lot out of this forum with all my questions. As a forum "newcomer", ya'll been really helpful in your opinions and suggestions and want you to know I really appreciate. I'll have to post up some fit pics of IH gear I own sometime soon.
Thanks.

Hey Brian! Thanks for the super well thought out post.
First off, the chrome tanned leather is sublime - you don’t have the weird smell that some veg tanned leathers have, and the color is very durable and uniform at first wear (a positive note of chrome tanned leather) and then breaks in with great character (the grain opens considerably) as you wear it.
For sizing, I wear a solid XL-XXL in nearly all my IH gear, snd wear a slim fitting XXL in the J-54. I will admit, the side gussets are exceptionally usable and if I did not have them, I’d have to size up due to the taper you speak about.
I do not notice the zips while
Wearing, and they are not obvious while
Wearing. I actually like the look of them
To be honest.Self edge and IHUK use different ways to measure, snd SE does not measure with new restocks every time, so IHUK measures will most likely be the most consistent, even with the changes to the SE version.
Hope that helps!
You will not be disappointed in the J-54 and the sheen wears away quickly after one or two wears in the rain another thing I appreciate about the chrome tan - it holds its own in foul weather.
Cheers and let us know how you get on with a jacket !
