Matt's New Mexico (Formerly Airstream) Adventure

The state’s mask mandate ended abruptly this week. Like out of nowhere the governor just said “Effective immediately…”.
I’m down as I’m ready to live with Covid now instead of living in spite of it. The museum today was kind of surreal. My stock response to making eye contact with strangers is a smile, and it’s been so long since anyone has actually seen it.

I think we’ll be ok. There aren’t really any trees near us. It’s all desert. The National Forests are getting the brunt of it. We saw a lot of that in AZ. We tried to see a Joshua Tree forest that was supposed to be the oldest growth JT area in the region when we were near Lake Meade but it had just recently burnt down. Very sobering aspect to our trip.

We took the kids to Taos in March and came in on Hwy 64. There were some heavily burned areas near Palisades Sill along the Cimarron River. It’s was pretty surreal looking because it was only burned on one side of the river. I did wonder how long ago the fire happened because there wasn’t much re-growth yet.
I hate hearing that about Joshua Tree. We’ve never been and it’s up high on the list. It’s looking like the increase in wildfires will make that sight more common every year. Sucks
