@drewfonse id say this fabric doesn’t stretch quite as much as the indigo 21oz, but there’s not much in it. Still as soft, maybe takes a bit of wear to get there but not much. It’s brilliant stuff!
Can’t wait!

@drewfonse Love them. The high rise is amazing. Wearable and comfortable from the get go, even the slightly tight waist. So much better, for me, than the 21oz 555 SBG, which are still like a rock despite endless wear and washes.
-
Interesting about the waist. The pair that I ordered (processing) has a waist measure that is ever so slightly smaller than my normal 888 waist.
Have you noticed any give in the waist? Early days, obviously.
I know the 21s is known for opening up, but some of the other denim by IH doesn’t as much. The natural indigo in particular hasn’t , for me at least.
Your pair looks great!

Based on previous comments in this thread and the product description, I went for a waist size that is an inch smaller than the ideal waist size I would like to end up with when it's fully stretched. So I hope I didn't make a huge mistake since I gather from some more recent comments in this thread that the stretch wouldn't be as much as an inch in the end? Either way, I stacked my order, so I'll find out when the time has come.
-
I think the general stretch is up to an inch, so you might be at the max, but given the fact that 21oz is among the stretchiest (prob second only to slub?) I bet you’ll be ok. I have a pair of 888 21OD that are verging on too small, and I’ve had quite a bit of luck giving them a round in the old Cowboy Pants Stretcher. Definitely give it a look on Amazon, was well worth the purchase for me.

I’ll also add that sometime sizing up can end up giving you the lovely dumpy ass effect, so there have been a time or two when I’ve held out for a bit of waist stretch in order to avoid going that bigger route. I feel like it’s different with every pair, but nonetheless something to consider ️

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I'll make sure to report my experience in this thread regarding the stretch factor so others can hopefully benefit from it as well.
Regarding the "dumpy ass effect" (see also: "diaper butt" etc.) I can only comment based on my experience that I had that with almost all cuts (1955, 634, 777 and 888) over the years, despite going for larger or smaller waist sizes, albeit to a negligibly lesser degree with some cuts than others (e.g., higher rise cuts like the 1955 and 888 > lower rise cuts like 777 and 634). However, after recently switching to 14oz (888) after exclusively wearing 21oz for years, I noticed that the problem became significantly less noticeable. If I had to take a guess, I'd say that it happens because of either the thickness of the fabric; the wide hips of the pants which is partially due to the rear pockets being large and placed rather towards the outside (intentionally designed by Haraki to make the pants more comfortable when sitting on a motorbike, as far as I remember) or even both. Either way, while wearing 14oz was a remedy to that problem for me to a certain point, I still enjoy wearing my 21oz just as frequently as my 14oz, mainly due to the feeling that I get when wearing them (cozy). Besides, years of loyally sticking to wearing IH denim later, I came to ignore the damn thing by not looking at it in the mirror and just reminding myself of how much I enjoy the quality and feeling of the denim itself - especially when broken in and completely soft.

Jeans just arrived, I'm still at work, and my wife just messaged me: "Your jeans just came in. I'm wrapping them and putting them under the tree, Sucker!" I sure am glad y'all don't put invoices in the bag...
"Your jeans just came in. I am putting them in the washing machine for a hot wash with some extra spin!"

@drewfonse Three days wear, and not noticing a great deal of stretch, tbh. The waist is so high that if they sit firmly on the hips, a little loose doesn't seem an issue. That's the case with my indigo 888s.
-
@Tobi eek!
-
For once I’m happy that the UPS delivery is delayed. Otherwise I never would have managed to resist wearing them before the 1st of January haha
-
@weftyarn yeah I’m glad mine are in wrapping paper for now because I nearly jumped the gun and said screw the contest lol
-
@cityofdelusion don’t fret the inch stretch! I remember my pair were slightly over 33 inches when new, and I just measured them and they’re currently at just under 34.5. Slightly over an inch difference from new. They do stretch, just need a bit more work than the indigo 21oz.
-
@jerkules Perfect, thank you for your reassurance! Very much looking forward to wearing them soon.
-
@weftyarn i'm also sitting between 2 chairs, got my xhs i don't want to take off but want to start wearing my SBG for indigo invitational... Sucks sometimes
-
Good info. Would you say that the comfort level/eventual drape is comparable to the 21s?
I find the 21 ib to be in same category in terms of comfort and ability to keep its shape. Maybe not as warm and fuzzy as the 21s, but awesome nonetheless. Hoping the SBG is in same solar system as those, because these are all work pants for me, luckily.
-
if anyone who ordered a size 35 and is having regrets DM me, I missed out. i have this denim in the 555 cut and will be selling soon as the knee and calves end up being too snug by the end of the day.
-
@drewfonse yup easily comparable to the 21oz indigo. My pair are sweatpant level comfortable.

Great to hear, thanks
