Craft Works - Let's Get Creative!
-
This thread is dedicated for everything that is made by yourselves. Paintings, clothes, pottery - whatever!
I'll start by quoting a couple of posts I've made regarding leatherworking in another thread on this forum:
@Jii:I'm making a wallet for a friend of mine. Today I got this much done:
Still lots of work to do..
@Jii:
@Max:
that looks beautiful. Is leather your profession?
Max, you're making me blush.. No, it's just a hobby of mine. I started by making watch straps two and a half years ago. Since I couldn't find the kind of strap that I wanted (or afford the ones that were available) I decided to make my own - I mean, how hard can it be right? Well it turned out that there was indeed a learning curve and every time I got something done I thought of a million things or details that could be improved - and still do.
Here's a picture of my first watch strap (it hurts and embarrasses me to show it but I have to prove a point here guys)
.. and here are some of the straps I've made that look a lot nicer:
Here's a wallet I made earlier this year that gets a lot of use:
And a belt I made:
I encourage everyone that have an interest in the subject to try it out, it's a lot of fun and you really start to appreciate the effort (and hence the price) that goes into everything that's crafted with a high attention to detail - just like Iron Heart
@Jii:
I feel a bit like spamming but some of you asked to see pics of the finished wallet. Here you go!
Let your creativity flow guys!!

i would like to know how you finish your edge?
I have to admit hat's one of the things I need to work on. When working with vegetable tanned leather I usually burnish the edges by hand with a bit of moisture and a piece of leather or wood and then I finish them by a small amount of EdgeKote. When using chrome tanned leather I use only Edgekote.
And GK: I just go off by instinct, I usually make a rough sketch of what I want the final thing to look like and just carve away
ChuckDenim, that's a good looking rein you have there. I've tried a bit of braiding as well but haven't been too happy with the results.

I try to make some leather stuff myself, but not even close to the level of Jii!
You can barely see my newest creation, a kindle-pouch, here: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6199/6137706128_76abbc763c_b.jpg
So, Jii, do you sell watch straps?
-
you know i have been meaning to ask jii that question for sometime now.
i just always forget to

Finished today some new hardware for the incoming 25oz tomorrow …
It's a 1,5" belt with 4,5mm blank cowhide leather and a brass buckle (thx to Finn/Rafa for the hint)

OK so I just figured out how to post pics!
I work with colored pencil and paper. It all started in 2005 when I decided to keep my journal on one sheet of paper, a nice sheet of course, 100+g/m (basic "drawing" paper) or more at least. Back then I had to write in different colors so that I could see the top layer I was writing. After time its become more about accumulation and texture than about identifying individual words. When I write nowadays, I envision myself raking rocks in a Zen garden.
With the exception of the third pic, which is an intaglio monoprint with colored pencil on top, everything that you see was created with only drawn lines and hand written words. After a while the paper starts to shred, and then things get interesting…
